The top one looks just like the one available direct from Ford. Not my cup o' tea, but it does serve a purpose in keeping the back gate/glass clean.

The bottom one is just too "ricey", IMHO.

I have been looking for something to improve the aerodynamics of the truck a bit. I would be happy with + 1 mpg...

I would like something to smooth out air flow off the truck or create a functional air movement just behind the truck like experienced behind the cab of a pickup.

I don't think the second one is ricey...if it were 5 inches higher and only functional at 120+mph then it would be.

I remember a while back, Myth Busters tested the fuel economy of a Dodge Dakota several ways to try and de-bunk the myth that an open tailgate delivers better MPG.

I paid attention.

The truck was tested four different ways:
-Tailgate up
-Tailgate down
-Tailgate off
-Tailgate off, and an aftermarket net installed in its place

Tailgate up delivered better MPG than off or down, but to my astonishment, the net was the best of them all!

I believe i read in a few places net was not best of all. It is either the tailgate up or cover.

I have the one on top but other than looks I can't see it having any noticeable affect.

Really...

Ebay has one similar to yours for 50 delivered. I was considering it.

i liked the second one, because I was considering it possibly smoothing out the air off the trailing top edge of the truck and gaining some kind of mileage. .5mpg would make me happy now...lol

Does it help keep your rear window clean?

No not a bit. It doesn't move air to the back window at all, driving down the road in the rain you can see the rain on the window and it doesn't move at all.

Does it help keep your rear window clean?

I've got the OEM deflector on the Eddie now (scored pre-painted via eBay). Also had one on my old Sport and also on my '97 Sport. They don't do much to keep rear window clean in my experience. I actually like the look at them and like the fact they're much more sturdy than Lund Windjammer.

I don't think your going to get .5mpg out of any wing or spoiler, it's just not going to happen. maybe .1mpg if your lucky. It's not one thing that gets you more mpg, it's lots of little things that add up.

I am definitely aware of the whole equation. This is just was a possible one part of it. I am still looking for some data on what that spoiler is supposed to do besides look good. I also have to find out if pushing air down behind the body will lessen drag or smoothing it out and allowing turbulence to swirl around the back. The mpg gains that I am looking for are highway.
