wats the point.. i just took my running boards off this weekend also.. why bother trying to cover the holes.. you cant tell really until you even bend down

Well if he removed the flares as well, I'm sure his Ex looks like swiss cheese. Take it down to a body shop, you'll get a more accurate estimate than on here for something like that- there is a lot of filling, prep work, and blending involved. If the prospect already scares you, I'd put them back on.

Filling holes is pretty easy just gotta take your time. Sand the area around the hole, clean all around the hole, get a body filler and mix it, fill hole, then sand once it's cured. Sand it till it's smooth, I'm unsure which grit sand paper you would need to use though for it to be ready for a shop to spray it. That's a very basic explanation of how to fill a hole. If you filled all the holes and shaved the rear wiper yourself it would be much cheaper then just having a shop do all of it. For the rear wiper you would need to put a mesh screen or something behind the hole for the filler to grab.

From the sounds of the original post, I don't see body work being his forte... I'd give it a shot yourself, but if you're not into it, get an esty...

If he's looking at paying to do it anyways why not give it a try? If you screw it up it's not an engine so it wouldn't be anything to fix really. If you fix the holes correctly then you just saved probably $1000.

I used set screws that I found at work. Cost was nothing.... I used a little loctite aswell

u got pics of ur x fooseball

well to settle your running board area you can do what i have done as well as several other members of this forum have done which is to tape over the holes with auto body tape and put bed liner over it
Check it

You can also do what Evan (MountaineerGreen) did - fill the holes with foam filler, sand it flat, and then Herculine it. Personally, I taped over the bottom part, and plugged the upper ones with some silicone and black plastic push plugs.

ha ha i took off my running boards and i have no holes... lucky me!!!

Whats your plan for this truck? If its an offroader, I'd do the bedliner and filler thing. or the plastic plugs. My only thing with the filler and paint is that I feel it its just a glob of unsupported filler over time it could crack and fall out. This will put you back wehre you started with money out of your pocket again.

If this is for show and street. Which it sounds like it is since you also want to shave the rear wiper. It would b better to weld up the holes and grind/ sand them flush. After this you can shoot um with paint and be good.

Also, where in MD are you located? There is a bunch of us on here and we are going to be having a Meet and greet in the near future. You should join.

Using body filler to fill holes is a completely unreliable repair. 99.7% of the time the holes will pop through or fall out. The holes must be welded and THEN filled with body filler.
You have a lot of holes, well your explorer does :shiftyeye
That would result in a very costly job.
