Coming Soon Ground Pounder Build

There will be no plastic in the truck when I do it. There will be bare metal. :) Naked metal. I was thinking about acetone but heard that it takes the paint off of the panels...But I guess that also means it is clean. :)

I really wish someone had replied sooner. I bought 200 sq. ft. of it last night. I will just be real careful when installing it. I will vaccume out the truck and wipe everything down with alcohol. Maybe my luck will be different from you guys.

On another note. I also bought two sets of these. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=410&i=065SX60&tp=106

I also bought one of these. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=065GT40&tp=115

Call them up and see if you can cancel the order

I already have a tracking number from it being in the shipping process.

400 sq ft??? That's a LOT! I used roughly 250 sq ft of Dynamat Xtreme and covered every surface on my '04 except behind the dash. All 4 doors and the hatch have at least 3 layers. Floor, roof, everything is covered. I used multiple layers in the wheel well area and the front floorboard as well. I even pulled the hood liner off and dynamatted the underside of the hood and put the liner back over it. The whole process took me several days. With 400 sq ft you'll be using multyiple layers all over the place and it will take you a good while. Should sound great, though!

I'm not sure about Fatmat but I know Peel and Seal is junk. Dynamat Xtreme was great to work with but it's expensive and gloves are a must. Even with gloves, I sliced my hands up pretty good during that project.

dynamat is always good, and i also have used a spray on sound deadener that worked pretty well. very easy to use, dried fast, and helped reduce vibrations. (i forget the name, otherwise id tell ya)

Well I spoke to a guy here at my school who has it in his truck...Fatmat that is. And he used acetone on his before he put it in. He has two layers and there is no issues with it. I even pulled off his door panel this morning and checked it out. So I am not that worried about it. As for the amount...I want it dead in there. 4-18's hit.

400 sq ft isn't much at all, especially if you want to compete. I had over 300 sq of mat in and 4.5 gallons of liquid in my Mustang, and that was a daily driver skewed to sound quality. It just depends on how good your ears are, and how OCD you are.

I just found out that the FatMat name was purchased by someone new (besides who I got it from). I don't know if the product has ever been changed, but I hope it works for you. If I find anything whilst reading, I'll link you.

Thanks alot Aaron. I will also post up with pictures and info on how it works out on Wednesday when it arrives.

Say what you want, but 400 sq ft is a crapload of sound deadener. I went crazy on my X, gutted the interior, covered the entire thing not leaving so much as a speck uncovered. I also covered the back of the plastic for all of the door panels, hatch and some of the other plastic panels. I used multiple layers on all surfaces inside and outside of the doors and hatch, double layered in the floorboard and wheel well area, covered the entire roof and under the hood. Is it possible to use more? Of course, by just stacking it over and over. But I used around 250 sq ft. That's a lot, and 400 sq ft is a WHOLE lot.

I can't speak for all brands, but with Dynamat Xtreme 250 sq ft will do the job in an 04 Explorer. Adding anymore to what I have would go beyond the point of diminishing returns.

Well I am doing it in different stages. The budget would not allow for me to purchase all 400 sq ft at the same time. So I bought 200 sq ft this time and I Planned on doing the rear floor, headliner, rear hatch, and rear sides. Because I am building a wall, it won't be easy to do it later. After the project is done, and my fundage is ok, I will then do the doors, firewall, under hood, and under dash and front floor boards. Hope this makes sense to you now. Now if after doing 2 or 3 layers, which ever I decide, if I feel I have enough, then I will continue doing the rest of the truck with that 200 sq ft or until I run out and purchase more accordingly.

Getting started on some sound deadening.

Nice...I see you are using fatmat I guess...it is just rubberized asphalt fyi. It works though but if you live in really really hot climates it might start to fail after some years

I think I will be ok.

Only got in six hours yesterday of sound deadening. I like everything to be perfect. So I took my time. You are seeing two layers everywhere. Still alot to go.
It was raining too, so the joys of working out of the hotel parking lot. Inside the car with the ac on. ha ha ha.

And yes, I am going to be doing the roof too. I am going to wait until I get the rest done first.

Got all my sound deadening finished and most of the box built. I will post up pictures later. My camera has a bad usb cord.

These pics are about three weeks old. I have done alot more, but I don't want to put all the pics up yet. I want to tease you guys.

I love SEEING these kinds of builds, but I no longer enjoy doing them. My lower back just can't hang with the big boys anymore :(

Alright then...This one's for you ;)

Hope that holds ya'll over for a few days. I do have the baffle ready to go in, with holes cut and everything. Just did not take any pics of it. This weekend coming up, I will have the second set of Boston Acoustics in the kick panels, I will have the front on and subs in with trim panel and possibly some carpet to clean some things up a bit. Roughly 35 cubic feet, going for a 34hz tune.
