Black Trim on Hatch

Does anyone know how to get this black trim off? I heard it was with a heat gun but i don't know for sure

I'm trying to take off my hatch and paint and sand it but i don't want this trim in the way since its starting to fade

(this is not my EX just a picture i found that showed the best image of what i'm trying to describe)

Open the glass.

You will see a bunch of small (3/16") rivets. They need to be drilled out. CAREFULLY.

Replacement rivets are cheap.

just respray it black. I hate when people make these parts body color

There is a 91-94 close to me with those painted white. Looks very odd...
