Good on/off road tire

I am biased since I run a Goodyear garage, but the Wrangler Silent Armor is untouchable. It has a 50k mileage warranty, the bfg does not. When the silent armor came out I got to go to Goodyears test track in Ohio and compare it against the bfg tako tire. needless to say when I got home that day I ordered my silent armors. here in pittsburgh where we have a lot of hills and sh*tty roads tires do not last. my wranglers have 25k on them and are still at 8/32. hope it helps and remember you get what you pay for.

Mickey Thompson MTZ

I had theese on my 06 F150. They NEVER let me down. They look great and are quieter than bfg alll or mud terrain. I drove my truck in 2wd through snow, mud (an actual mud pit not a puddle) and sugar sand. I drove 65 miles round trip to work and at 32,000 miles (on the tires, not the odometer) I had well over 1/2 tread. When I lift my ex it will sit on MTZ's! The best tires I have ever owneds, and Ive owned a lot! Including most of the tires mentioned on this thread.

I left it in 2wd just to see if it would make it through and it did. Had to put it in 4wd to even out the mud though :p:

and as soon as i get them in next week i'll make that bone shattering feeling even better by adding 45psi to the mix (i like higher tire pressure for better wear, and fuel mileage reasons:D) (oh and as a side note the "bone shattering feeling" doesn't bother me)

lol :D

just an fyi, i did bump up my tire pressure to 42 psi (45 psi hot) for about 3 days and turned it back down to 38psi. Reason was the middle section of the tire showed significant signs of wear as in the siping on the middle threads went poof  we did a chalk test and yet it was eating it up with the high of psi.

I would make a list of the top 3 that you're serious about purchasing, and read some reviews from a trusted online tire site like:

www.discounttire.com
www.tirerack.com

etc

I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers which are a good on/off combo with good tread life, very low road noise, and amazing grip in sand/dirt/mud (I've been in all 3...). I know a lot of other people here also use the Terra Grapplers on their X's as well as other vehicles with similar views.

But as you see, a lot of brands/models being thrown up here. Read some tire reviews on those sites mentioned above, and it will help you narrow down your choice.

I will tell you that before I lifted my truck and changed the wheels/tires, I was using a set of Bridgestone Dueler APT's, and I will never go back to that brand/model on ANY vehicle because the road noise they produced was very loud inside my cabin, and they wore quickly. So compared to those STOCK tires, it's amazing that these much larger tires (the Nitto's) are so much quieter and wear much slower than those...so the reviews I read about these tires were spot on.

If road noise isn't an issue for you and you want loud, there are some tires mentioned above in other posts that will provide that as well ;)

I had two sets of Bridgestone Dueler REVO's on my previous Sport Trac. Excellent all-around tire, quiet but good in rain, snow, mud, etc. Downside, they wear pretty quickly which is why I had two sets in the three years I leased the truck.

I have the Michellin LTX M/S on my '04 and my '96. Great tire. Quiet, great ride, and seem to last forever!!

I just outfitted my '03 XLT with Bridgestone Duelers A/t Revo 2s. GReat tire. Low road noise, wet traction thus far has been SUPERB. Traction in mud, on gravel and rocks has been no issue either. Definitely worth taking a look at. Only had them on a month so we'll see what kind of life they provide. Bought them in 245/70 R16.

i am being forced to buy new tires before i wanted to due to an accident where i was rear ended and both rear tires blew out from the vehicle that hit me. So i will be replacing all four tires, but if you looked at my wear patterns on my current goodyear wranglers that have about 30k on them at 42psi cold the wear is even all the way across the tread.

I dont know what's worse Essex, the cell phone or intoxication. Sucks to be in your shoes, I know. Was without my explorer for almost 3 weeks. A lady in an f-150 OWI-ied me at a stop light 18 days after I bought the truck. Keep your head up, you'll get it back soon!:thumbsup:

OEM Michelin Cross Terrain SUV from Costco. Great tire, excellent service, 65k warranty, free rotations and balancing for life. $674 out the door for 4 tires.

HA thanks merc, i sure am crossing my fingers they get it done soon i hate driving cars, there is a reason i bought an SUV, im not a tiny car person :D

I have Goodyear Wrangle Silent Armors on my 05 Explorer XLT Sport and would not have anything else. They are great, super quiet, ride smooth and do great in the mud and snow. I live on a gravel road and they have held up against the gravel better than any car or truck tire i have ever seen. They have 16,000 miles and look like new. From a long trip on the interstate to a trek across my farm they are amazing!
