I am going to install an amp tomorrow night in my 99 X, but not too sure where to run the power cable through the firewall. Any help here? I just ran a sirius antenna last week, checked out the firewall then, didn't see anything popping out at me for an easy spot to run it through.

I know A LOT changed from 92 to 99 on the Explorers....

But if this is any help, I ran 1/0 wire here:

Here you can see where it comes out, into the engine bay.

If you'll notice in the first pic, you can barely see the ECM and plastic bracket that holds it to the body behind the passenger side kick panel.

Where the steering wheel comes through there is also an area where wires come through the firewall.. take it through that rubber boot, takes some time to do so but its better then drilling. Try that if you need help more people on here know more then I do

thanks guys. I think I will try the no drill method first :D

**** i ran mine through the door, up beside the mirror, from the battery through the section down to the bottom of the door hinges and up over the front and back doors.

well, I had some fun tonight.....

Here's the story - about 2 weeks ago I got sick and tired of the MACH radio in my 99 X, stupid LCD blank problem. I decided to upgrade the radio, and put in a Sirius kit. Bought it all off of Crutchfield (nice plug so I wouldn't lose my factory sub too!), and after 2 days, I blew the factory sub. Sounded great for 2 days though!! So, I went up to a local store and bought a new 8" sub (Rockford Fosgate 8"), dropped it in. Sounded like **** (running from the factory amp). Hence the aftermarket sub. That helped some, but it still didn't even sound as good as the factory sub, and I was going nuts......

So, I went out and got a loaded 12" MTX box tonight. DAMN, much better!

Oh, and I got the amp installed, easy - went through the firewall just to the left of the brake pedal - super easy. Its nice being back into the world of some nice bass - my last setup with a "real" sub was about 10 years ago!! Love it!

What hole did you run the amp through? Im tryin to run my power wire down the driver side, just wondering what hole you went through

I have no clue. Thread is 4 years old. :D I sold that X in April 08.......bye bye Exploders.

BakerBaker- here is where I ran mine. Then ran it under the carpet. Pull the sill plate covers and run under there, then under the carpet under the rear seat.

I drilled a hole for mine as my wire kit came with a grommet
I then ran it to the drivers sill, to the back of the rear seat, crossed over to the passenger side rear cargo panel to where the amp is mounted.

I kept the factory amp and have had no problems in 8 years (I have had to replace the Rockford amp though)

I removed the cargo net storage so the amp would fit behind and covered with gray material.

I sure would like to pull my factory sub box and mount my amp where the sub is now. I don't want to have to pull my real panel off every time I need to adjust my amp. Plus I do not want to mess with my interior too much, it's pretty clean.

But I do like that all you have to do is disconnect the subs when you want to move something. UHG

I am still trying to decide where to put my amp and capacitor.
