Picked up my new limited last week and very happy with it. ride is smooth and tight - comparable to my x5 i had a few years ago.
QUOTE]Congratulations on your new ride. Great looking vehicle. Still waiting for mine to arrive. I ordered the Limited with Medium Light Stone interior. That is what yours looks like. I had been wondering about the wood trim and if it would be dark or light. I guess your picture answers that question.
Again, congratulations and welcome to the forum. :wavey:

haha, do they even MAKE these in anything other than white?!? :D

Congrats!

ps. How does it ride on the 20" wheels? Did you get a chance to test drive one on the 18s? I'd love to know for potentially upgrading my stock 18s down the line...

Also, I've got a another question: Did your limited come with Homelink? If so, where is the transmitter?

I've gotten so used to having Homelink, that I really hate to have to go back to not having it, especially on a new car. I wonder if it's possible to retrofit after the fact...

Yup. Take a look at the moderator's post. Finally a pic of one that isn't white! Mine will be though when I get it.

yeah, I saw the burgundy Ex. I just figured it had to be a vinyl wrap over white paint, though! :p:

response to lobuzz311

never drove one with the 18" wheels, but the 20" aren't bad. i'm coming off of a low profile 20" rim car, so maybe my perspective isn't great, but i like the ride - a nice firm feel but not too firm. i also, got the 20" rims (i believe the painted alum ?) that come with the limited and i think they look better than the upgraded 20s that they charge for.

the garage link system is actually on the visor above the driver. it actually didn't work with my garage opener (marantec), although my wife's gmc never worked with it either. so i called Lear car2u (manuf) and they sent me out to adaptor units to basically create a learn button for both of my openers, free of charge. so, now it works.

cheers,

Thanks for the thorough response!

I called up a Ford parts dept, and they quoted me $350 for the visor with the homelink. EEEEK!:eek::eek:

wow - that seems extreme - i do like the convenience, but would have to give it serious thought for that price.

You bought my Explorer! :D

The homelink system in the visors could be retrofit. The unit itself only needs 12V supplied to it to work. Technically you could put one in your pocket with a 9V battery attached and it would still work.

Let the modding begin. :D

If it's anything like the visors in the Gen II though, you'll never tear them open and get them back together in one piece... That's why I had to install mine in the headliner of my '95... But yes- if you get creative, you can find someplace to put them in there. :)

Can you buy just the modules, or do you need to buy a visor from a junked car & rip it out? I don't have a problem putting it somewhere creative, but I would like it to look as OEM as possible...

Anyone else braver than me ready to start ripping the dash apart?

I'll be adding a homelink to my X when I get it. I've done it to my Focus and my F-150. I just buy a unit off evilbay for under $20 and install it in the overhead console. All it needs is a constant on 12V supply and ground. Once I do it, I'll post up what I did.

Lemme dig and find a pix of what I did with my F-150...

Nice, I'm looking forward to the How-to!

just fyi - you may want to put in your own homelink if it didn't come with your explorer

the first day i got my explorer, i went home and immediately tried to link the garage buttons. the first time i pressed the right hand button of the 3, it stuck, in a pressed position. i had to push the rubbery button to the side a few times before it released itself. being this is my first american car i have ever owned, i thought, ok, here we go. since then, i have programmed that button for the garage i seldomly use, b/c it still sticks. it just seems cheaply made. the buttons are tiny and kinda mushy.

moral of the story - you may be better off with an add-on homelink.

hope that helps.

btw, most everything else with the truck, i have been more than impressed with.

cheers

Thanks for the heads up. I had the homelink on my 2004 F150, which was also in the visor. I'm pretty sure it had the same type unit, since your review is pretty spot on. Seems even more ridiculous that it's $300 ($200 of which is just the fact that it has homelink vs the standard visor.)

I'm hoping some of the DIY geniuses come up with a good hack. I'd be more than happy to do some dremel work if I could save a few hundred bucks!

The "Universal Garage Door Opener" is only available (standard) on the Limited right? At least that's what Ford's website says on the model comparison. I would have taken the option for this on my XLT if one was available. Interested in seeing Draper's solution for his XLT.

These are the older in-visor modules.

That is the type I installed into the headliner of my old '95.

As long as you have someplace for the module, you can install it anywhere. It's stupid easy to put in, you just need a power and ground.

Nice! That's a pretty slick-looking install!

Can't wait to see what you do with the 2011... I'm going to wait to put mine under the knife until someone more experienced has done the install.
