here it goes..my head light switch stoped working last night and i was smelling burning wire...well i said forget it last night and just took the batt out so no more power..i got up this moring to go and take it apart and i found that the pig tail that plugs into the headlight switch on my 94 was melted to the headlight switch..

Now i know what i need to do but i am not sure on the best way to do it?

Should i just cut the old one off and splice the new one on?
OR do i have to take out each wire and put it in the slot of the new one?

Is there a write up around here showing steps if not i might plan on making one if i can get a chance?

I had the same problem and mine turned out like this

i just cut a good connector out of the junkyard with as much wire left on and soldered it than wrapped it. Not to mention a air freshner to.

i think i am screwed i live in hagerstown,i cant find no junk yards, advance auto and all the other ones cant get the connector in..I called ford and they told me it was $84.00 and they would have it in 2 weeks..i cant wait that long i need my ride at night as i take my daughter to school at 545am and its still dark out...what to do,what to do..

Mine is on the main pull out switch for the lights??Can i just cut the old one back on and splice the news one on when i do find it?

Ford told me it was caused by a build up of crosein on a light socket or the wiring harnees in the back for the hitch hook up?I love my 94 XLT 4x4 but shes been on a bad streak this week

sorry to hear about your luck, i'd definately be looking in the yellow pages and calling some garages to see where some junkyards are at while u have daylight. since the day picked out everything on my explorer in 94 i've always heard a click from the tail lights when i pressed the brakes. since the first i day i got it it's always had the hitch and wiring on it.

ok update..i found a junk yard got the switch and connector for only $20..i had to splice it into the old wires but when i got done everything works except the dash lights and the ac/heat i didnt splice all them together becuase i couldnt match up the last wire but now i know what its for the DASHLIGHTS..so tomorrow i will fix it

but for now thank god i got headlights who needs dash lights!!!
