it will pop up about 3-5mm, outer housing will spin around

middle flag will rotate 2mm at most

it wont come out any more,

tried to jiggle crank while other person tried to get it out with slide hammer vicegrip, no luck

the upper housing is broken off, just the lower lip and middle flag is left

beat on it for 2 days now and it wont come out any more than a few mm

if it breaks anymore.....whats the plan?:(:(

Bump

engine will still crank over smooth with no symptom of any binding at the cam and gear....flag rotates

going to look for a better fitting gear puller tomorrow

day 3 over

was told ...this is one of those thing that never happen, only herd about

BUMP

PLEASE ANY IDEAS OR COMMENTS

can i remove oil pan and pump to knock it out from the bottom of the oil shaft with engine still in car?

any other possible options?

tho if i cant pull it out.... how will i knock it out

was thinking an engine puller attached to the end of the syncro...

Can you rotate the upper section "clockwise" ( vice grips? ) at all while someone holds the crank from turning? I think this is the direction the worm gear would "push up" away from the camshaft gear. I know you said you have fought it forever, but have you tried working just the center shaft? I guess what I am getting at is the gears might have worn into a pattern you will have to break free. Rotate the inner shaft back and forth, get some turn on it without the crank-( or camshaft) moving. One direction will force it up and out.

will try again with new vice grips, never had good enough grip for a good effort or to move crank....if it does rotate its very very little, almost like its just "play"

tried a puller today with no progress, stopped before i broke it off, had 2 sockets and a bar going across

how can a puller work like that? aren't you just pushing on the thing you're trying to pull out?

i think you need to force something (like the tip of a pry bar) between the block and the base of the CPS. if you can get it to lift a little you should be able to eventually work it out.

See the "lip" right where it goes into the block? Can you get the puller arms under that? Try spraying some pb blaster or mineral oil into the gap. There is an o ring in there, maybe some oil will help it slide out.

Edit--
Oops, yeah, Koda is right. Can't use a puller. It would work against itself.
