This is just a few of the Explorers I came across. Great interiors and exteriors.

The blue 1st gen with rims has a real nice brush guard on it.
I took the guard. Cost 40 bucks. Also got myself 4 General Grabbers 31x10.5 for 80 bucks.

The seats in that last one are better than the ones I pulled recently, and mine are pretty decent. I got them cheaper than those probably are though. $38 each, complete with tracks and motors.

The yard I go to usually has a good selection of Explorers, but they don't group them together like that.

You realize much of the country is COLD and covered in snow right now, right? Posting pics like that now could get you a lot of visitors!

Weather was beautiful as always today. The group all makes and models together. I can pick everyday, no foul weather to worry about

When I look at all these beauties, I really have to wonder why they were simply discarded.

During college I bought Fords from the JY. Had to pay something like 50 bucks. Fixed them up a bit for inspection then sold them to Turkey. There was never really much to fix on those cars (mainly welding in some patches), and I made a good dime of it.

I came across tons of Explorers in great shape.

I went back to the same pull-a-part I was at last week,

they sent all the first gens to the crusher!

17 of them;; most still with plenty of sell-able parts and most still had engines.

Including the one I was going to grab the Detroit Locker out of!

Morons!

A sign of things to come? Probably. Fortunately here in Phoenix we have a couple yards left that do not crush.

Thats ridiculous, my understanding is that salvage yards make more money crushing the car then parting it out. I always thought that parting it out made more money. My buddy owns a scrap yard and likes crushing because he wants a quick turnover on cars. He doesnt like to have cars sit for too long at his yard. By the way, ill be in Phoenix next weekend visiting family. Ive been wanting to go to the DESERT CAR KINGS salvage yard.

I'd love to find that brush guard! Any idea what kind it is? I wonder if it affects headlight output..

Benjam :D

Salvage Yards

Hi,
I frequently visit to the salvage yards for auto parts and vehicles.Use of salvage vehicles can be a good option if you have the knowledge of bidding and reselling it again. Copart salvage auctions is the best place when it comes to buy or sale used cars.

I've never been out there to Desert Kings, that's where you go for really old iron.

Checked their inventory and they have nothing Ford after 1989.

Yet!

I pulled the instrument cluster from an '01 Sport the other day, and I've been kicking around the idea of taking the trailer hitch off the '98 I took the seats and console out of, just in case I need one someday. Scored one better than that yesterday! I was out of town on family business, and stopped in a farm store there just to look around. On their trailer hitch display they had a hitch for " '91-01 Explorers". Round tube design that will tuck up under the bumper. On clearance for $30!!

I'm going picking at the salvage yard tommorow. I need new seats up front. I also have broken door pulls up front that I will be switching out.

The yards I knew back at home deboned the cars before they crushed them. More storage cost for them, but many spare pare were only a phone call away for the customer.
