Hi folks,

i am on the way to rebuild a spare 5R55E (P97GT-7006-BBR) from a 97 SOHC 4x4.
Stripping down was no problem, now i have to decide which parts are ok,
which are not ok and which parts should be definitely replaced.
It's my first attempt and i like to fix all of the "faults" this tranny
gave us such a lot of pain (VB fixes, servo bore fix, seals, and so on).

The overdrive sprag is one of these parts to replace, but how did i get the new sprag back in its center overdrive shaft?
It seems to be a little tricky, found nothing about it.
Do i need a special tool for this job?

thanks in advance

Wolfgang

Wolfie it's been so long since I put mine back together I can't remember, but no special tool was required. Have you contacted James the transmission forum moderator? He is a master and is very helpful.

Thanks so much for your answer!
I didn't have a contact with James (nickname?), sorry but i didn't know him.
I am just still reading and reading in this spectacular forum.
So much stuff to understand!
I will try to find out who he is!:)

thanks

Wolfgang

Only thing there I have run into is the race for the OD sprag can get worn ( in the planetary).

Hope we talking about the same part?
There are some plastic noses around the case of that sprag.
Tapping it out from behind was no problem,
but these noses/barbs prevent the new sprag to go in.

...unbelievable, pushed that thing in by hand.
Using a small amount of grease and it sliped in.
