So today I recieve pictures from my family of the Explorer and these are the only ones I have. It's still at the impound I would love for them to get it out but I think with storage fees it might be a lot, idk. If I was there, idk, I'm sick of hearing so many different things that everyone is telling me about it. If I was there, I would have took care of everything right away but there too lazy and they didn't have anything else to do. Sad to see it go I bet..

Honeslty, it's fixable. The tires are still straight which is a good sign, the frame is straight. The engine seems to be good, just that corner that is damaged. Yeah it's going to need the metal worked thru but the junkyard would have all the cosmetics for maybe $200.

That is a hell of a lot more than $200 in parts. Just a used door for my 98 just cost me $200. I realize that you don't need a door, but you are looking at a hood, quarter panel, bumper, grill and headlight just at first sight. I'm sure there is plenty of hidden damage. Compared to this damage my accident was just a scratch at it totaled out my 98.

Salvage yard parts cost aside, that's a lot of damage and the apron (the part that extends from the firewall) is not a bolt-on piece. It could be replaced, but welding would be required.

Personally I would not invest the time, effort and cost of trying to fix that truck. JMHO.

You can buy it back if you get it cheap enough it would be worth it because of those tires! If you want more parts off it I would just go buy another explorer and build that one up. You can get a good body/frame for a couple-few hundred bux

"It'll buff out!!"

Yeah that's true and I agree now. Maybe I can find an exact copy one day to replace the whole in my heart(joking), but maybe about replacing it.

I just bought my 98 back from State Farm for $350 last week. It had $600 of tires on it, Had to put a new passenger rear door on it ($200) it ain't a show car (chicagoland winter salt rust) but it is a safe daily driver that will get me through the snow in the winter.

Wouldn't that much front end damage trigger the airbags? What's that gonna cost?

Damage I see...

Bumper cover
Bumper and brackets
Fog light assembly
Hood
Fender
Apron
Core support
Vacuum ball
Inner fender
Coolant/windshield washer reservoir
Complete headlight assembly w/signal and parking light
Grille and side trim
Fiberglass filler piece under the grille
Auxiliary relay box
Air filter box
I assume air bags +
Air bag sensors and monitor
Probable damage to "A" pillar
Possible damage to door and hinges

And that's just what I can see with the hood closed. There's also a very good possibility the apron on the driver's side may be tweaked from the impact. I don't see being able to purchase all these parts (plus whatever other damage you find) for $200. Even if you could make all the required repairs when all would be said and done you'd have a 20 year old Sport SOHC? V6 with a salvaged title and obvious shade-tree repaired severe accident damage that I don't see anyone wanting.

Now way, scrap it! There is damage you do see, and then there will be 10x more damage you DONT see right away until its taken apart.
There are just too many decent one's out there for a good price to screw around with parts and labor on a crashed one, only to end up with
a crashed repaired vehicle.

I’d be willing to bet $$$ there’s frame damage.

I agree there's most certainly frame damage, also damage to parts of the suspension, to the radiator, and most likely also to AC components.

Koda2000 put together a good list already, the door and A pillar on the passenger side he mentions there are also visibly bent. You can tell on the picture from looking at the seal between door and the window.

And even the diver side fender is bent. You can tell if you look at it closely, it has a dent near the front and comes out a bit at the rear end by the door and window.

What did that it collide with? A pillar? A tree, a truck?

From the height of the damage it looks like the back corner of a Semi Trailer.

Hopefully no one was hurt...

Airbags didn't go off from what I was told. Also the airbag light been on before the accident and I think the memory was full on it from previous accident in the front. Never had airbags go off though. Just triggered sensors.

Luckily they weren’t needed, because that almost certainly would have triggered them.

I would still buy it back even if all you could do is use it for parts for your NEXT EX !

Storing and keeping a parts vehicle can be a pain. I’ve had one sitting around for years. Sitting in the sun and not moving them kills them.

Fixable yes, practical, no. I think the passenger door is open in the pics, it's still crooked appearing, although I've never paid attention to my doors opening, and the frame does appear straight, but that doesn't account for everything that can happen to damage a frame, such as an up or down bend or it being push back slightly or even twisted. You're looking at a LOT of work to even make it half decent again, might as well figure almost everything past the front doors is junk body wise. I can't tell you what to do with it, but bear in mind it's smarter to find another truck, especially with the issues I've seen your truck having on here such as rust out the a** and minimal brakes.

Is that a V-6 or V-8 model? If you decide to keep it for parts, I would be interested in the Sound System Components. My "MO" was missing the in dash part, I call it the stereo, some people call it the "head" and I know at least one of mine the speakers are shot.
Across the scale in my town the whole vehicle would be worth $280. 4000 pounds @ $7- a hundred.
