I'm gonna get the safeguard system next yearThat would help with the detonation limit for sure. Do you have the timing reduction device, I forgot? That would allow it to run with more timing and back it down as needed.
I have had the stock air box on my '89 LX since I bought it and all through the mods I did to it. I deleted the air silencer in the fender and it left a big, gaping hole to suck cold air from the fender. I used a direct replacement K&N filter to replace the stock one. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."I just went back to to my factory airbox with the sealed snorkel behind the headlight today with a K&N drop in filter. Dropped intake temps 20F when out of boost. Temps also recover a lot quicker. Never thought I would be putting back the stock airbox. Glad I kept it and didn't chop it up.
Truck also feels like it responds better. BUT that might be because it was never properly tuned with the cone filter and MAF hosuing being closer to the throttle body.
I also have a aftermarket MAF that has greater range then the stock one. The stock MAF would peg out at 5v in boost with the stock airbox.
Such a nice buildI just happen to unexpectedly get some 90° hoses today in the mail that I wasn't expecting till next week. I know everyone loves photos. So here is my revisioned stock intake for a supercharged 4.0 SOHC Ranger.
