You said $29 for a filter, and that's the low end of what I recall the EA filters being. I think my cone filter was around $35, plus S&T. They only make those as universal now, they did away with their OEM applications.

Here's the page which lists the sizes and part numbers. The one I saw(EAAU3590) there come up as $72 retail, my price as member is $56. So I've paid a membership fee for years to buy their gear oil and several other things I like.

Aw crap, I went back to check on specific sizes, and the drop down only shows five part numbers. Of those, only one is 4" inlet, and it's oval/large, 9" tall and almost that wide. That one may be the big size I bought, the number(4091) sounds familiar.

I would call them about other sizes, and see if they make them, or how long it's been since they did. With the part number, you might find it online, eBay etc, or here. I found the stock Explorer 302 EAU filter here from another member. I've put about 15-20k miles on it, and it looks very good still.

I ran a K&N drop-in filter up to 10lbs with meth injection in my old Ranger. I found no need to upgrade the air filter size as I checked it with a vacuum gauge at the air box. and never saw vacuum..................FYI, I would get too spendy on a larger one.

Well Don, I called them, and they tell me that they stopped making all of them last May. So they only have the five available which show in the choice box. If you might want one, better check those five sizes and think about it. Their filter page shows all of the prior sizes, dimensions, and part numbers. Those may be pop up on eBay sometimes, I used to see them when hunting the 302 Explorer filter.

I've been looking online
Kinda of a pain to find this size

Do you guys think about a pre filter wrap pre filter
I did replace it with the same filter in the picture above
Early this morning
so I'm not in to much at a rush to find a quality cleanable dry filter

If you have the filter open to the engine bay, a wrap or pre-filter would help it to stay cleaner. Driving on gravel roads makes one dirty faster, stay on road and it shouldn't be that bad.

I was surprised that they stopped making all of them, I'd bet the profit went away. I'm going to have to do some measuring and see if any of there old filters will work for any of my projects. I'd like to use the same size for a 2-3 of my projects, so one spare could work on multiple cars.

Hay guys can I add a bottle of octane booster
To help with detonation on these 95-110 f days and crazy humidity
This subject I know nothing about
I bought some when we just had this had shortage
I'm not having any problems just preventive and curiosity

Btw if I followed the directions it will raise the octane from 93 to 96 at least that what it says

That would help with the detonation limit for sure. Do you have the timing reduction device, I forgot? That would allow it to run with more timing and back it down as needed.

I'm gonna get the safeguard system next year

I just didn't want to mess up the tune

That's it, I'm planning to use that also. The timing is a bigger tool for safety than the A/F ratio, so you have to keep the timing on the side of not ever being too high. You have that now, so you are trying to keep the IAT's down and the mixture from detonating. The octane boost wouldn't help whenever the conditions are already safe, only if the IAT's get unexpectedly hot. I think most people use it for racing by raising their timing at the track etc, to gain power from it like that.

I just went back to to my factory airbox with the sealed snorkel behind the headlight today with a K&N drop in filter. Dropped intake temps 20F when out of boost. Temps also recover a lot quicker. Never thought I would be putting back the stock airbox. Glad I kept it and didn't chop it up.

Truck also feels like it responds better. BUT that might be because it was never properly tuned with the cone filter and MAF hosuing being closer to the throttle body.

I also have a aftermarket MAF that has greater range then the stock one. The stock MAF would peg out at 5v in boost with the stock airbox.

Here's a good air cleaner if you can find one, the Volant 19640;

You've seen it in my truck, it's a direct replacement for any of the 97ish to 2001's. The inlet hose is made for the SOHC, the 302's would not replace the stock rubber tube. The prior one with the round air cleaner is different.

I have had the stock air box on my '89 LX since I bought it and all through the mods I did to it. I deleted the air silencer in the fender and it left a big, gaping hole to suck cold air from the fender. I used a direct replacement K&N filter to replace the stock one. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I just happen to unexpectedly get some 90° hoses today in the mail that I wasn't expecting till next week. I know everyone loves photos. So here is my revisioned stock intake for a supercharged 4.0 SOHC Ranger.

Such a nice build
I thought mine looked good
But I did mine on a very strict budget .....had to get creative and make some parts .....Plus I had to build and tune this thing without ever even driving it once
Still haven't driven it Lmao

Got the pre filter in the mail today

Charging issues 🤔
With all the lights on and everything else on
Alternator just stops working
Car stalls
Then starts up fine with everything off
But little to no load its fine
Like headlights radio

Could all the electronics I have installed be overloading
The more stuff you turn on the lower the battery gauge goes
Then it just stops like it has overload protection
Been this way for two weeks now
Any thoughts
Maybe a high amp alternator is in order?😭
