In need of a replacement gearbox for my 2002 RHD 4.6 V8 Auto as it decided to self destruct on us could anyone help ID what gearbox i need and what other vehicles had it so i can start hunting for a replacement. I am in the midlands of the Uk.
Thank you.

If it’s like a US model it’s a 5r55e.

Its a V8 limited from what we know it was a AUS one that was imported into the uk from new. *2002*

I missed that it was a 4.6 with my sleepy eyes. I believe you have a 5r55w. Someone will positively answer this soon.

Cheers knowing what gearbox i need for sure would help although I'm worried this may be the end of her.

ok after much looking around i think its a 5R55W but still not 100% where would i look on the gearbox itself to find out or could anyone confirm ?

There’s not a transmission code on the drivers door jam tag?

2002 used both, the 5R55W and the 5R55S. The 5R55W was used up to 3/3/02 and the 5R55S was used from 3/4/02.

The W and S were basically similar physically, and can interchange, EXCEPT second gear ratio was not the same in each, all other gears the same. Therefore use of the "wrong" one would result in confusing the PCM regard shift speeds in 2nd gear.

The tag on the transmission could be used for identification.

where would i find that? hoping its not on the bits that went bang lol.
It will be on the side of the transmission. It could look like the tag in the picture or be a sticker.
