I am having a problem finding info about how I'm supposed to connect the battery harness to the one plug under the master cylinder the 00 ranger has that the 00 explorer does not.

00 Ranger xlt 4.0L 4x4
00 Eddie Bauer explorer 5.0L Awd

Ps I cannot find my old 4.0L battery harness

Thank you for letting me join!

you basically need to modify the 5.0 harness to fit the 4.0 truck

there are a few changes at that plug ranger vs explorer
the explorer ac high pressure switch is wired through there, on the ranger it is different, the explorer and ranger ac systems are wired slightly different from each other

The explorer 5.0 uses a generator fuse in the fuse box, the 4.0 ranger does not it uses fusible links
This is the power wire for the alternator voltage regulator
I personally like to add the fuse to the ranger

here is a thread you might find helpful for wiring this up

best idea is to make a map, map out the rangers alternator and battery wires on paper
Then do the same for the explorer
The changes you need to make at the plug should jump off the paper at you

Thank you 410! I found my ranger harness and see what you mean. It's been 3years ago when I pulled the engines out so I'm alittle fuzzy on if the negative cable goes straight to the frame or engine block ? On gt40p's how important is it for the exhaust and intake valve springs being shimed to the same height? It's 100% stock. Not sure about Firing order either. Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

every ranger should have 3 main ground cables from the battery, one large one to frame, one large one to engine and one smaller lead to the body

the 5.0 has a ground cable that goes down to the front timing cover stud and the frame right below the battery, it is routed with the starter positive leads

There is no shimming on the stock 5.0 gt40 valvetrain, it is hydraulic roller lifter with pedestal mount style stamped rockers, no shimming needed but you do need to torque the rocker arm assemblies properly if you have taken it all apart
I covered the valve train setup in the 2007 ranger build found in my signature

when running the plug wires do not cross wires when possible, like the chart above shows cyl 2 and 3 crossing, 5 and 6 too, I avoid that when I run my wires

Great now when I click on the forum it's no longer available

Why does the fuel filter for the ranger 4.0 have two inlets and one outlet? The explorer 5.0 only has 1 inlet and 1outlet. Also the ranger has a fuel canister purge valve and the explorer just has a 3 way hose set up. How do I go about hooking it up sense they are 2 different set ups. Currently crank no start. Tries to start but running rough as hell. New crank ps, New coil packs.

Well I figured it out. Fresh machined engine purrs like a kitten. The second fuel line that was going into the inlet of the fuel filter was a return line that went back to the tank. As soon as I plugged it fuel preasure built up and it fired up.
