2000 X AWD EB 5L
2000 4L pushrod; ~255k. This started yesterday afternoon. List of symptoms:
- P1132
- Hard starting - crank for 30s+ coughing then starts
- White smoke from exhaust- oil & coolant are not mixed.
- idles rough - lack of power
- fuel smell - while running - can't tell where it's coming from
- passenger side exhaust manifold is wet.
- cylinder 2 very wet; can actually see moisture seeping out while running - swapped with Q-tip doesn't smell like gas - attaching pic
- cylinder 3 small amount of moisture
- cylinder 1 dry
- Fuel Injectors 1,2 & 4 clicking in a similar speed.
- After priming the fuel pump a few times can hear a slight hissing around the top of the engine, can place exactly where.
- No noticeable fuel leak from the injectors
- Going to take the intake off for visual inspection
- About a week and a half ago I installed rebuilt injectors; see thread: Rough idle, stalling after injector replacement
- Fuse 13 is good
- Point of information; the truck has been running cool for a while; it seems the T-stat has malfunctioned and will not fully close
- Recently discovered, but I suspect it's been happening for a few months now.

Any help or insight on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Intake off, priming the fuel pump you can see the mist on cylinder 2. Even though it is ticking it's not fully closing. So now I need to pull those out and clean em again.
I don't have any extra white injectors, so hopefully I can exercise this one back into shape, I'm kinda wishing I would have just left the orange injectors in.

Installed the orange injectors again and got her back together, test drive went well. There was tons of thick white smoke out the exhaust, but after the test drive it was pretty clear. It doesn't look like the O2s are switching, they may have been cooked by all the extra fuel being dumped. I have a pair of those on order anyway.

New O2s are in; got them in just before the rain came through. These are much easier to replace than the v8 although I did need to remove the drivers side wheel in order to get enough room to reach the connector. Going to log data and see how things look. The test drive showed the O2s switching like normal.

Update: fuel trims are on the floor. Combined Short/Long are around -30. That's to be expected with these orange injectors.

Anyone have any input on running these orange injectors for the long term? I know ideally use correct parts, but...

Isn’t -30 maxed out? I seem to remember the computer not being able to pull more fuel than that. So you are likely running rich, if I am correct.

I’d guess that injectors are cheaper than cats…..

Yes it is. that is max trim.

you will need to reset the pcm and let it relearn its idle and trims again. also check your wiring and see if one your injectors has a permanent ground as I belive that they are ground switched. This would keep the injector stuck open.

Orange injectors? Ohv never had orange
Are you running v8 injectors in there?
Or aftermarket? Aftermarket the color no longer matters it is what the builder speced them at that counts

Yes, v8 injectors; that's why the fuel trims are at the max bottom. I am going to find some proper ones to install.
