Updated the list of prospective participants. Too bad Eric had to dip, I was looking forward to seeing his Jeep in the flesh. Thankfully, he had the opportunity to visit the park earlier. Incidentally, you might not be seeing GiGi the Gas Guzzler this time around... She was a fun project, but...- DintDobbs

Photos Show off your 2 door Explorer sport or Sport Trac!
This was my first car, bought stock seven long years agone and still puts a smile on my face every time I get inside. It was fun as a daily driver, but was for ever retired from that duty when I slapped 5.13 gears in it.- DintDobbs

@C420sailor I hate seeing good vehicles get parted out, but salvage yards are a charitable organization which I support through purchases several times a year. I'll take parting out before crushing any day!- DintDobbs

Who says they'll scrap it? It could be sold. And even if they do scrap it, who says it won't be used to keep Explorers like ours on the road? Parts can be sold, too.- DintDobbs

It happened again, another Explorer followed me home.
@Fix4Dirt My '00 Limited gets somewhere in the scope of 18-19-ish. The onboard computer claims 19.2, goes back and forth between 19.1 and 19.2 in town. It used to read 20-22 before the lift and A/T's. My '99 Sport never got more than about 17 (the best my math figured, at least), even before...- DintDobbs

@DemonMudder That's cool, there's plenty to do and see, and traveling with the group isn't mandatory. The first time I came here I was solo, and I didn't have any trouble finding the way around. @TribeZ Nice pick! I haven't heard any complaints about them anywhere, except one, that said they warped really badly. My guess? Didn't follow the break-in instructions. Don't know, might have just been bad luck, or there could have been other contributing factors. I expect that we...- DintDobbs

Do NOT buy anything from this Ebay company > ECCPP-AUTOPARTS
I avoid eBay like the plague, and I strongly suggest every one else to as well. Little policing on listing descriptions, and the company doesn't hold sellers accountable to make good on poorly described offers.- DintDobbs

Upgrading Gearing with 35s
5.13's all day every day. I'm running a 2nd-gen so I can't be absolutely sure of how the 1st-gen transmissions are geared, but I'm running 33's on 5.13's (the RPM's game is real, I gave up driving faster than 50 MPH) and wouldn't go back. If your rig is a dedicated off-roader, the 5.13's are...- DintDobbs

@DemonMudder Now that's a thing I'm going to leave good enough alone. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Having a spare at this age might not be a bad idea, but it's not leaking (somehow). Those are definitely better brakes for handling those fat rubbers. Nice tread pattern, those wide lateral...- DintDobbs

Getting the most out of what I have
Junk yards (or other used parts distributors) can often get spare wheels for a lot cheaper than you'd pay for a "repaired" one. Personally, I keep the spare strapped down in the back of the truck when off-roading. Lower center of gravity than keeping it on the roof, more clearance than keeping...- DintDobbs

@toobladink I'm late to the party, but OSPHO is another product you might look into. I'd trust 410Fortune's Permatex though, he's been doing this. Tires, only ever LT. It's a light truck, they make tires for these for a reason. It's a truck and it's designed to be used like a truck, give it...- DintDobbs

Getting the most out of what I have
@toobladink Would absolutely recommend grabbing a second Explorer for street use. That's exactly what I did, but the environment is mean here, so a moderate lift and all-terrains for the street truck just kind of made sense. I'm pretty sure you can get the RTZ keys separately from the...- DintDobbs

OK, since everybody else shared their stories here, it's my turn now. Before I had a car, I offered my ma full blue book value for her Durango for years, and she always said no, no, no. Getting the most out of what I have
Edited previous post to include more information. No, the spacers actually cause clearance issues on the outside, which is why cutting the fenders was necessary. The wheels fit much better without the spacers, but I needed the stance and couldn't justify ordering custom one-off wheels with...- DintDobbs

@toobladink The 16x7 stock rims on my '99 Sport (teardrop style) had 3.75" backspacing. Don't think about offset, it's just a more complicated way of measuring backspacing. Offset = distance between center line and mounting surface Backspacing = distance between inner lip (hub side) and...- DintDobbs

So far, so good! That K&N high-flow intake is a piece of art, one of my favorite modifications to my Sport (very low maintenance and super easy and fast to clean). @Lee's Automotive There wasn't an appreciable difference in power for me (not a fan of running past 3000 RPM's), but it woke up...- DintDobbs
