Stroking an Explorer 5.0L engine?
Thanks for all the advice here. In the end I passed on the stroker setup because he only had the crank and block. Adding the cost of a set of rods and pistons for a stroker setup pushed the cost past what was reasonable right now. I've got someone dropping off a low mileage longblock tomorrow...- fastpakr

Stroking an Explorer 5.0L engine?
Thread necro apologies... I may have a line on a 347 shortblock to use in place of my screwed up 5.0. Assuming everything's in good condition and the final price is right - can someone confirm what I'd need to get it in place? 28 ounce main pulley with the Explorer crank trigger - looks like I...- fastpakr

I'm amazed you got it over the core support so easily with the transmission attached. Mine has permanent scars from doing it that way. Maybe your lift just goes higher... Nice trick on the V6 engine mount plates. Much easier than swapping over the mounts.- fastpakr

It'll happen. Just working on the simplest/cheapest/quickest plan at the moment. Too much more of this mess and it'll be a choice between a truck and a marriage. Simultaneously taking notes on the hurdles to converting to a 351 down the road once things settle down a bit on the homefront.- fastpakr

410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"
I'll have to post a picture of the pickup. Before I dove into the engine, I was concerned the problem wouldn't be obvious - all I had to go on was a pressure gauge that would drop to zero on the interstate (which I thought was a gauge problem initially) and some bottom end noise. As soon as...- fastpakr

410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"
My whole engine swap has been an odyssey of woe. Finished the conversion to V8 with no significant hurdles, including a good rebuild and putting in the XE258 I'd ordered. When I fired it up, it never ran right. Chased down a bunch of possible explanations. Pulled the lower intake and...- fastpakr

5.0 cam bearing question
Yeah, I'll definitely pull the lower intake/pushrods /lifters to get the cam out. It's really just the heads /pistons that I'm confirming. I can't imagine why they'd need to come off, but wanted to be sure. Saves me time and some money on gaskets /bolts if I can avoid doing anything with the .- fastpakr

Buy a spare trans and rebuild that so you can swap it in as soon as the old one comes down. That way you can take the time on the rebuild .- fastpakr

5.0 cam bearing question
Quick question... I have to replace the crank and rod bearings in the 5.0 in my Ranger. It's probably a good idea to swap the cam bearings as well while I have the engine out (long story short - I screwed up and lost oil pressure on a brand new rebuild). Can the bearings be swapped with the...- fastpakr

410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"
If they were a hundred bucks apart and the TMs had been available in a week of lead time, the decision would have been easy. I got the OBXs for about $450 less and they're supposed to be here next Wednesday. No question though, I'd prefer to go the other direction.- fastpakr

Thanks, that makes a decision for me... I've got the engine out so a header install would be -cake- right now, but I need to be driving the truck to Ohio in less than three weeks. I guess the good news is that I just saved a thousand bucks?- fastpakr

4R70W 1-2 accumulator spring
I may just leave the vb alone for now and do all the other parts you recommended. Engine is out as it is and I need to be up and running in less than three weeks. Plenty to do... I've got a couple of spare VBs so once you figure it out I can prep one and do the swap on a convenient weekend.- fastpakr

4R70W 1-2 accumulator spring
I'm staring at their drop in valve body and it's really tempting. Have you determined the correct drilling selection for the 4R in our trucks? As I recall, the last time this came up a year or so ago, you hadn't decided for sure.- fastpakr
