I want to buy 2 front seats out of another Explorer.
The whole engine compartment is stripped out.
How can I get the seat moved forward to access the two rear mounting bolts?
Someone once said you can use a 9 volt battery?

Yep, use a drill battery, with a couple of alligator leads to the seats plug underneath it. 12v or 18v works good.

Believe it or not..I don't own any cordless tools anymore....I guess I'll have to take out the battery from one of my other cars and lug it with me.

Just an idea here...

Two 6 volts for a few bucks, would be a heck of a lot easier to carry and set on the floor. Grounds to positive for 12v, then one from each polarity to the seat harness connector.

Had a thought.. Maybe a small 12V motorcycle battery will be enough?
Easy to carry, compact. Just hook up a couple of wire leads.

I've used a motorcycle battery to move seats around, works great.

12 volt riding mower battery.

You can access the bolt heads with a regular wrench or a ratcheting wrench. Takes a minute or two longer but I have removed more than one from a junkyard when the seat was on the full rearward position.

If you have a motorcycle or mower battery handy, then heck yeah they will work but are still a little heavy to lug into a junkyard (if that is where your going). Dollar store 6v's or borrow a drill battery would be easier to carry, but might not be easy to obtain.

Either way, you have your battery info and choices given, and you can now get your seats. :hammer:

I guess this whole thread is just for informational purposes.
The guy that was parting out his Explorer pulled the seats for me.
All I had to do was load them up.:dpchug:

Good to know it's solved. Another option is one of those jumpstarter packs., but personally, I'd own a cordless drill for its own convenience.

They wont let jumper boxes or cordless drills into the junk yard sucks so 9v batteries might come in handy in the future! Thanks for this thread.

^ That's a shame, the local yard I go to allows cordless tools.

Those little PP3 sized 9V batteries often used on pocket radios, won't do much, have too low a current capability. You might be able to use one to make a light bulb dimly glow, or might not.
