lower ball joints, a hub & bearing

I just had both lower ball joints done. The cost was quoted from $535.00 to $336.00 (I took the lower as the mechanic is someone I know & trust)including alignment. I also had the wheel ass'ly chek'd (everything cool hub & bearings are one piece). The cost you were given is indeed a little out...

    ball joint job at sears...

Not Sears, but...... I got the call from the repair shop, it's gonna cost me $356.16 (incl's tx & alignment) for both lower ball joints. Sure beats $534.69 (incl's tx & alignment) from my local Firestone/Bridgestone dealer! Virg :smoke:

    Get yer Moog ball joints!

First time replacement? ETC., Are you saying that I need to replace the control arm also? I have a '98 XLT w/69,000 miles. The Firestone dealer said that the lower ball joints needed replaced. They wanted $535.00 incl's alginment, but have found a repair shop w/a great reputation that will do...

What is UP with the suspension on these things?

Texplorer is right on the money. If you'd read Consumer Reports you'd know that they complained about (on the Exlporers): the AC (not good-weak), gas mileage (poor) & the ride (too stiff as the X is truck frame based). Matter of fact CR complains about the ride quality on ALL ladder framed...

    My '98 Ex won't start!

Guys (Gals), My '98 won't start, wtf? It ran great last night! It cranks, has electrics, it just won't start! I had the m0012 deal done 3 months ago, could it be a timing chain? BTW I had the IAC & something to do w/the thottle body & thottle cable (it was sticking) replaced the same...

    Lower Ball Joints

I just got a call from the local Firestone dealer (got a oil change & tire rotation). They just informed me I needed lower ball joints! After reading these posts I don't have any of the classic "problems" i.e.: uneven tire wear or vibration. I do & have always (since 47,000 mi.'s) had a...

98 SOHC Cold Start Idle problem

I had the cold start idle problem, the dealer is getting it fixed as we speak ($210.00 + tx), it was the upper & lower intake gaskets. Also they are going to fix the cam tensioner problem, the sticking gas pedal at no cost to me. Virgil

    Cold start idling

Hey guys & gals, I haven't been here for awhile ie: no real problems! Since it's gotten real chilly below 35 degree F, my '98 idles a little "funny!" The rpm goes to about 2900 rpm, then it goes to about 250 & acts like it will stop running. It only dies this for about 3 minutes or so...

    XLT running boards

Hey Guys (& Gals), I was wanting to make my '98 a little "tougher" looking & was wanting to replace the factory running boards w/tube types. Are there any mounting holes in the body like on the Eddie Bauer mdls? And if this has been "talked" about before where can I find the thread...

hideous noises in 4wd.. (long post)

I have the same "problem" & was told by three different mechanics and the people here that it was "normal!" So I don't use 4wd hi/lo on hard surfaces (leave it in 4 Auto). Btw the last mechanic (a friend that drives a Expedition) talked to Ford Tech(?) and was told that there will be an...
