i have a 91 explorer and a 02 ranger, this issue is with my ranger.

so i was thinking of flushing the tranny fluid and replacing the tranny filter to see if that fixes anything, but then i read online that doing this can ruin your transmission?

so my od light was flashing. wife was driving so dont know the full details but the car is shifting kinda funny now. anyways i did some reading online and it suggested to take the truck in have some codes pulled on the tranny. it looks like many people are recommending to just change the fluid...

thanks for the suggestion guys, it never overheated, it just ran hot, hit about the 75% mark sometimes. The problem seems to have gone away now that the crazy heat wave is gone. im ganna go the route of spark plugs, wires, coil pack for now and see what happens.

ok so my truck is running hot, and i thought that was what was causing this problem, but its now doing it when the engine is not hot, like when I first start it up so it must be something else. when i shift it into gear, it stutters/surges/dies, or wants to die, the rpms drop and the car wont...

same problem happened to my 91 explorer, they do sell the belt for it with or without ac.....maybe the belt would fit yours?

how do I check the tranny fluid? There is no dipstick like for the oil on my truck. How do I check to make sure its good?

so I did the obdi test, and I got the check engine light flashes, and tried counting them. I wanted to run it by you guys to see if I read it correctly and got the right codes. the codes I got are: 46, 64, 66 did you get the same? link to vid...

thanks i ended up finding it, theres 2, a little plug, and a pigtail, behind the fuse box towards the firewall

so i have used the obdii code readers before but never a obdi. I read a thread on here about how to do it with a paper clip and reading engine light flashes etc. well I decided to cough up 30 bucks and just get a obdi code reader, where do I plug this thing in?

thats what I was thinking, there are no coolant leaks and I havent used any stop leak. its doing it more often now, it basically surges, im thinking its more electrical or the fuel pump or something now.

after doing some googling, i am reading that it could possibly be the ignition control module? anyone familiar with this or this type of problem? this thing is my daily driver and its going to continue to be 100+ degrees so i gotta figure it out asap!

thanks guys, i did it and it fixed the problem. brakes are working now. now they are grinding, hoping its just the pads!

is it accessible without taking the wheel off? i looked under there and couldnt see it.
