700 does not seem too bad...I have a 06 Taurus and the compressor bearings are gone and now I have to replace the compressor...quotes range from 600 to 800...And no I don't have the equipment or skills to do it myself !

Sounds like your slave cylinder or master cylinder or both have gone south....With the age of the truck and if those two components have never been replaced, it might be a good idea to do that and then to a thorough bleeding.

I changed out the fluid and tranny filter today. Now, we all know that heat if the transmission's worst nightmare...If that is true, who was the brain surgeon that the designed the x to have the cat converters right next to the tranny?????

A mechanic tried to charge me 700 plus labor ! I brought the ex in a year ago to have the codes read because of vacuum line problem....To make a long story short the vacuum lines were the culprit and I have set a code since and I have had no problems with the sensor even though the shop said it...

I was going to suggest wheel bearings as well..Mine had a similar problem...changed the bearings and all is well...

Your tranny "went" ! Where did it go, do you think it will come back ? Just kidding....Mine went out at the same mileage..Had it rebuilt, have 190,000 on it now and tranny and engine are happy.

I doubt it highly. Carfax is over-hyped. The information you get from it only reflects what has been reported by DMV's. You are taking your chances if you want carfax to tell you if you car was in an accident or flood, let alone a tranny rebuild. I know of many cars that were in accidents...

If we all took this advice we would not need this board ! Anyway, mine does not knock but I do get some what seems to be valve ticking and goes away in a few seconds. If it is a rod knock, it doesl not go away, does it ?
