Fresh Reman Trans - Truck will not move

Thank you sir! I am not 100% certain. I am assuming that the only way to confirm the torque converter's proper positioning is to remove the transmission again. Is that correct?

Fresh Reman Trans - Truck will not move

1996 Ford Explorer 4.0L Automatic 4x4. Just replaced the transmission with an Autozone reman 3 yr warrenty unit. In the process, the t-case was removed. When all was put back together, I put the truck in drive and the rig did not move. None of the gears work. I shutter to think that the...

1996 4.0L Consuming 1 qt. of Oil Every 300 Miles

Thank you for all the great comments. I replaced the plugs about 1000 miles ago. The old plugs did not look bad at all. All plugs seem show evidence of clean burning with no oil residue. I will pull them again. I am also inclined to a leak down test.

1996 4.0L Consuming 1 qt. of Oil Every 300 Miles

Mileage = 140,000. The PVC valve was in good shape. I also checked the tightness of the bolts in the lower manifold. They are good too. Is 150 lbs. of compression sufficient? I have no leaks and no smoke, just annoying oil consumption.

1996 4.0L Consuming 1 qt. of Oil Every 300 Miles

I have no discernable leaks. The rear main is moist, but does not drip. No sign of oil underneath the truck. I did a compression test and all cylinders were within 5 lbs of each other (155 to 150). I see no smoke from the exhaust, only a few drops of water. Does anyone have any idea how I...

    Engine Swap - 1996 4L for 2005 4L

I know very little about motors, but I do believe mine to be OHV. If the short block requires a SOHC, then it sounds like it is a dead issue from the get go. I am assuming there is no economical workaround. Thank you for your help.

    Engine Swap - 1996 4L for 2005 4L

I have located a 2005 4L short block, part number 5L2E-6015-B13A. Will it accept 1996 Ford Explorer 4L heads, manifold, flywheel, starter, transmission housing, etc.? I am concerned about bolt patterns and other obstacles. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Transmission swap - 1996/1997

I did not want to expose my lack of forethought, so I did not include the fact that I already had it installed. Ugh! It shifts fine between first and second and third and overdrive, but between second and third there is a noticeable hesitation and the engine increases about 1000 RPM until it...

    Transmission swap - 1996/1997

Can I swap a 1997 transmission for a 1996 transmission? Both Explorers are 4WD. The 1997 transmission appears to have sensor connectors on it that I do not see on the 1996. Is there a way to adapt the 1997 for a 1996 application or will the swap result in shifting problems?

    Gauges are wacky!

1996 Explorer XLT 4.0L I began this saga trying to fix an instrument cluster where the odometer and trip meter did not work and the tachometer worked intermittently. All other gauges worked correctly. I bought a used cluster, removed the old one and replaced it with the one I recently...
