I have had issues with it, determined it was because of the front wheel bearing on long road trips. The bearing would get very hot and suddenly cut the signal, causing the cruise to cut out. I have also seen boiled batteries and bad alternators cause this, so I would check all 3.

Clarification: The idle wont "shoot up" but it will noticeably change if you're paying attention.

Possibly check the pcv valve/hose. Sounds like you have a large vacuum leak somewhere. If its hard to find use a propane canister and a hose, and spray the propane around areas where you think the noise is coming from while idling. You will find the spot when your engine idle suddenly shoots up.

For really bad engines, I sometimes run a quart of mercron ATF with 4 quarts of cheap oil and run the engine wot down the highway a few times. Then drain and replace with fresh oil. Works like a charm.

I think they fair well off road. I would say the biggest improvement I would make to mine next is a rear locker. The only times I've been stuck in mine is because I had open diffs/ I was high centered. Hills don't seem to bother it at all unless its absurdly steep.

Its really a shame that these vehicles don't hold any value. I still have the window sticker and its sad that $32000 can decline to somewhere under 4k.
