P0606 when passing 3500rpm and fail safe.

I'm working on a 2004 Mountaineer that has the 4.0sohc v6. When you pass 3500 rpms the engine goes into fail safe. I connected my analyzer to it and monitored the wheel sensors because I read that one of them when faulty could cause the engine to go into fail safe. They are all working fine. If...

"F-40 Rocker Arm Kit Price Update

Our 1995 Explorer V6 is currently at 244K miles and it has the valve train rattle. I called Delta Camshaft to see about their F-40 kit and found that they no longer supply the pushrods with the kit. As a result, the price is down to around $132. The core charge on the other hand has gone up to...

Trying to decide wether to rebuild top end or replace engine.

The 1995 Explorer that we have has had a top end rattle when accelerating and sometimes at idle. It has 244k on it and it appears to be leaking coolant on both sides of the engine between the heads and block. It has had this problem for as long as we have had it and this was back in 2007. I...

Friend's 1999 Explorer sport shuts off every two blocks.

I'm getting ready to look at a friend's 1999 Explorer sport with the 4.0l 6. He says that while driving, it shuts off every two blocks. He said that he replaced the MAF sensor which didn't fix it. I need some pointers as to what to look for when I get there. Do you think it could be the ignition...

Question about a transfer case in a 1995 Explorer 4.0.

I noticed while I was underneath replacing the drive gear for the speedometer that when I turn the rear drive shaft, the front drive shaft also turns. I thought that when in 2WD the transfer case would be disengaged internally from the front drive. Is this normal when in 2WD? Matt

Removing speedometer drive gear from output shaft on a 1995 Explorer 4wd.

Do you have to pull the transfer case to remove the speedometer drive gear on the output shaft or can you just remove it after removing the output shaft flange and seal? It is a 1995 Explorer 4.0 with 4wd. Matt

O/D light blinking on 1995 4wd Explorer 4.0 ohv auto.

The O/D light began flashing again after I performed a transmission fluid and filter change. I also added an external inline Magnafine filter. I did this about 3 months ago. Before then, it was coming on about once a week after each reset of the computer. Since the service, the light didn't come...

Trans flush or fluid exchange on 1995 Explorer 4x4

I am getting ready to do a transmission service on the 95 Explorer 4.0L 4wd. It currently has 199K on it and I have a feeling that it hasn't ever had a fluid change. It has a 4 second delay from reverse to drive unless you put it in 1st or 2nd from reverse, in that case it goes right into gear...

Question for those needing a lower steering shaft for an Explorer.

I came across the following parts site looking for a lower steering shaft for a 1995 Explorer 4WD. The following link will take you to the part diagram along with the part I am referring too. The price is $58 and I figured that was to good to be true. I later found that they were referring to...

Question about transmission in 1995 explorer 4x4.

The other day I was test driving my Mom's explorer because of the O/D light flashing. Supposedly, when the O/D light is flashing, the over drive is disabled and the transmission is in limp mode. I counted the gears from a dead stop up to 45 and noticed that it shifted in all 4 gears. I used my...

A/C leak at high side service port. Need a replacement.

I have a leak at the high side service port on a 1995 explorer. I noticed that you can use a wrench to unscrew the valve for a replacement if needed. That's great because it saves me from having to replace the entire hose just for that valve. The problem is that I can't seem to find anybody that...

I have question about a speedometer issue. First off, The vehicle is a 1995 Explorer 4wd with a 4.0. When fully stopped, the speedometer reads 10 mph. When you start driving, it will climb to a speed faster then what you are actually going. Say your going 15 mph, it will read 25, and if you are...

swapped in an E303 cam from Ford racing for a 1997 Explorer, need help

I just swapped in a cam from Ford as stated above. It has a 5.0 in it and the problem is that it has no power. It has that nice lope now but no power. I checked the vacuum with my guage which is reading 5 inHg at idle. I know that a stock engine is supposed to be between 15 and 25 I believe at...

Cherping and squeeling sound behind timing cover

My brother has a 1998 Explorer 2wd 5.0. There is a cherping and squeeling sound coming from behind the timing chain cover that seems to be getting worse. It sounds like a dry bearing. He is afraid to drive it back to Tampa which is a 3 hour drive. He thinks that if it is a bearing then it might...
