2002 Explorer Kicking in and out of 4wd

02 ex EB My ex has been acting funny, could never really figure out what I thought it was, just that my transmission was probably on the way out but then I realized I THINK what it is doing is kicking in and out of 4 high all on its own. No lights come on for this. What would the easiest way...

Need help, 97 Explorer will not move

Yes, replaced the filter, actually twice during that entire process. The new one does not have even 5k miles on it if I was guessing. I know of no external leaks, so unless you mean something different I do not think so. Did not pull codes, but even back when it was acting up the codes I...

Need help, 97 Explorer will not move

I have replaced the valve body and gaskets in my explorer about a year ago, still had a few issues but it worked ok to get around here and there. Pulled out of the driveway the other day and all of the sudden it acted like it couldnt/wouldnt stay in drive, not kicking or anything just seemed to...

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

alright....after having to go in and out 3 times I THINK I finally have it all going. Turns out I also had an extra ball put into my "refurb" valve body I bought. Wish I had taken the plate off and checked it for my self now. Word of advice to anyone who gets one, look it over before putting it...

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

I do. And I just ordered the gaskets for it in case I end up doing just that. OHM tested the old solenoids, they all look good. Is there another way I should test these? I was surprised with all the problems these seem to have that they did not have the gaskets at Oreillys

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

I think so too, which leads me to believe I have introduced new problems, so what of the new VB would cause this? I plan on testing, and replacing solenoids, is this the best first step? Wondering If I am not thinking of something

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

Nope. Last valve body was slow to engage when cold and slipped out when cold, then had blinking OD light and hard shift when warmed up sometimes. These are completely new problems, and old ones seemed pretty much all gone.

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

You guys being AWESOME nailed my last problem. Now my new problem. 2nd and OD which I know are on the same band. Since the new VB, I have NO overdrive. It throws code p1762. 2nd is there, but takes forever to shift to third, high RPM, shifts a little hard and even slipped out once. I did...

97 Explorer now only goes in reverse...in every gear

Replaced the valve body, reverse servo popped out while doing so. Thought we had everything put back right, but now it only goes in reverse in every gear. Have not tore it back down yet, hoped to research first, but am finding NOTHING to really help me. Anyone have any ideas? 97 Explorer, xlt...

97 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd AT --Tranny problem, help?

Alright, first step, replaced filter, new fluid and some Lucas conditioner, at first it wouldn't even shift right AT ALL. Light blinking, filled OVER fill line, and seemed to work fine, took it out for over an hour of driving after that. in the first 10 minutes it slipped out of drive twice, put...

97 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd AT --Tranny problem, help?

Alright, more and more reading, I think what I plan to do is replace the entire valve body with new solenoids and gaskets, new fluid and filter, and if that don't fix it, then...well....

97 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd AT --Tranny problem, help?

drdoom, what would cause it to only be a problem after 20 minutes of driving like clockwork though? I would think if that was failing, it would be more sporatic or have problems from the get go

97 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd AT --Tranny problem, help?

Thank you! I can tell you that there does not seem to be the abrupt jump in RPM I have seen in other areas. Fluid is not low, cannot speak to dirty or not, so I guess I will do the fluid and filter change first, then come back if that doesn't work. I appreciate the response, and it does give me...
