    home-fabbed TTB suspension...

I am gonna truggy my '91 Ex and have been looking at lift kits. These things are pretty dang spendy. I have some fab skills and can weld etc, plus I have a decent supply of heavy-wall DOM and 1/4"-3/8" plate to make arms/brackets out of. Anyone have pics of extended radius arms they have...

kick azz... thanks for the links amigo. The buggy one is cool but way to high dollar to be applicable to my project... but they both help me with some ideas. thanks man! if any1 else has anything to add, please do! :) j

    Explorer truggy pics?

really capable isn't the goal... cheap is. ;) I have a 1-ton'd K5 truggy on foh-dees for real wheelin. ;) I think the massive loss of weight will help the ex more than anything. Amazing how much the tub of a rig weighs! thanks for the tips... I'll see if I can get more pics for 'em...

    Explorer truggy pics?

I did some searching and didn't come up with much. My wife has a '91 Explorer that she hates and we are going to buy her a '06 Aveo pretty soon to get around in. Once we have her new car, she told me I could do "whatever I want" with her old '91. The body is kinda ugly and the interior is...

    changing the thermostat....

is the open end you use one with a wacky offset or kink in it? Dont see many opportunities for a "straight shot" at it. Guess I have to go out and buy some metric wrenches now. sigh. :( j

    changing the thermostat....

oh yeah... its got a 4.0L v6. Anyone? what tool do you use to reach those bolts? :( j

    changing the thermostat....

I feel like a total newb posting this... but I've searched and couldn't find a thread that helped. I have a '91 Ex and I suspect the thermostat is sticking. I got a replacement and went out to change it tonight. Well, I'm an old school chevy guy... and on my 85 K5 I can change a thermostat in...

    my Ex wants me dead...

Im always wary of computers controlling engines... so I decided to invest $20 on ebay and buy a used computer for my Ex. I've had it in 2 days, and so far no idle issues at all. I'll keep my fingers crossed. maybe it was just a zapped 'puter. :( Before and after the swap though, my Ex...

    my Ex wants me dead...

I didn't notice any cracks or anything on any of the vacuum hoses I could get close too. When I shut the rig down, there is a "hiss" coming from the brake-booster area... could that be my problem? Also, could my cruise control system be sending wacky messages to my ECU? I have the CC...

    which computers are compatible?

sounds like the safest move. Thanks for the tip. As far as the problem I am tracking down, I have a thread about it in the under the hood and driveline forum. Basically, my engine likes to drive on its own with no driver input. ;) j

    which computers are compatible?

yikes, pretty narrow range. Hope one of the yards near by happens to have one. Anyone know for sure if its just 91-92? thanks, j

    which computers are compatible?

I have a '91 Ex with a 4.0L six and automatic. I have been trying to track down a problem with no avail... and thought I might try going to a parts yard and getting a different computer to see if that will solve my problem. Question is, what years computers will work with my '91? Thanks in...

    my Ex wants me dead...

Ok, thats the kind of thing that'll have to wait until the weekend. Anyone else have any ideas? Gonna go see if I can see any problems with vacuum leaks... j

    my Ex wants me dead...

Nope, doesn't burn oil. Also, wouldn't a vacuum leak be just as bad when the rig was cold as when it was hot? The more I think about it, the more it doesn't seem like a coincidence that I had no problems during the winter months... but do during the warmer times of year... Not sure on fuel...

    my Ex wants me dead...

Since I got a 125 code on my CEL, I busted out my multimeter to check the voltage coming off the TPS. The thread about optimizing the TPS here on SE helped alot! :) At any rate... I tested it 5-6 times to make sure I wasn't getting crappy data. Results: at idle position, 0.99-1.01v.... at...

    my Ex wants me dead...

since I finally got a CEL, I took the beast to Shucks auto supply and borrowed their OBD I tester gizmo. Code came up 125.... aka "TPS voltage below normal" or something to that effect. I wouldn't doubt it if I had other problems also (it is a 15 year old car!) but this might be the root of my...

    my Ex wants me dead...

Since this problem seems to be temperature-related... could my problem be a busted coolant temp sensor? j

    my Ex wants me dead...

New IAC... no change at all. My wallet is a lot lighter though. :( Any other ideas? I finally got a CEL, guess I'll roll into Napa and see what codes its blowin. How exactly are codes read on these rigs? j

    my Ex wants me dead...

Over the last couple of days I've noticed a pattern in this behavior.... it only does it when the rig is hot. In the morning (i go to work at 6am) its fine... when I start it up on my commute home, its sometimes ok... but by the time I am getting close to home, its 2000rpm, all the time. That...

    my Ex wants me dead...

anything is possible I guess. Right now I'm wishing my Ex had a carb... at least carb'd rigs tend to not go out of their mind and drive by themselves. Could it just be that my 'puter is just messed up? I have cleaned my IAC in recent memory (within months)... but I didn't replace it. Guess...

    my Ex wants me dead...

and right now, the feeling is mutual. Maybe 6-8 months ago my 1991 Ex started giving me crap. The problem was that the engine would rev up to high RPMs... all by itself... with NO driver input at all and completely out of the blue. I did some searching here and decided to start by...

    A4LD... time for rebuild?

ok, I tried checking out the modulator... it seems fine, vacuum is fine, no fluid in there. I have the money right now, so if I have to rebuild the tranny I have, thats OK. What worries me though, is that I'm gonna have it rebuilt, get it back in there... and it will do the exact same crap...
