    4wd down and out

Personally, the first time my auto hubs showed any signes of trouble (sounded like a ratchet when the wheels were moving) I switched them to WARN manuals. Lifetime garuntee, and all steel parts :D

    Rear suspension on 1st Gen.

Greetings, Its been a while sine I have posted here, but I have a quick question. Last week I decided to go up 21rd (I live in GJ, CO) and didn't get very far before I relized I needed more mods before trying to go farther. When I got back on level ground (after beeting up my 91XLT) the...

    Axle Question...

Wow! Thats a comprehensive responce :D Thanks! I was thinking of a 5.5" skyjacker if I stay with the stock axles, and going up to 34-35" tires. I have seen a lot of post here and a lot of people seem happy with it, although there seems to be an issue with bearings. I am also planning an...

    Aftermarket bumpers?

BKennedy, Me too! At least for the front. I am planning on going topless and I am not sure exactly what I want for the rear yet.

    Axle Question...

This has probably been asked many many times before, however I was unable to find it in other posts. I have a nearly stock '91Ex 4dr, and I have wish list longer than my arm. For now I am doing research first(from what i have read it is the #1 most important step when doing mods.). I have...

    Keyless Entry, Please Help!

Just to clarify, are the parts your working on: 1: Orginal OEM installed at the factory that your repairing. 2: OEM parts that are NOT original for this particular vehical, but could have been. 3: 3rd Party(i.e. not made by ford motor co.) add-on that your trying to get installed for the...

    Keyless Entry, Please Help!

I know the system 'should' work to unlock the door it is attached on, but as for all doors, I think you have to run some extra wires to each door, or at least to the back of the switch that controls 'unlock' on the driver side door. Shouldn't be very hard to do.

Chips and wires and sensors oh my?!?

Really? I would have thought it would have been closer to 900. Oh well, if it is correct then I will not try to get it any higher, although the bouncing volt meter has returned. :( Oh well, back to the tool box

Cool, Thanks a bunch :) I'll try that next.

Chips and wires and sensors oh my?!?

Actually I did an oil and lube job on it in Nov. It was the first thing I did after getting it out of the field it had been sitting in. This problem was a recent development, so I put new wires, plugs, and air filter in,along with cleaning the air intake sensor. After that I changed the...

Colorado Summer Run 2005 July 22-24

I recently moved to Clifton, CO (next to GJ for those that have never heard of it) from Idaho. Having said that, what is the (in)famous 21 road? is it north or south of town? From the way it has been described on this thread sounds bad, and probably too much for my stock X and my inexperiance...

    My '91 XLT

Sorry, no pics yet. I guess I should have done this part sooner, but here goes. 1991 XLT WARN Manual Hubs Other than that still stock 166,000+ on the clock and still strong!

    '92 xlt electrical

First place I would check would be at any external (under the hood) wiring harnesses. Even if the wires look fine, remove a piece of insulation, not a lot, just enough to check the wires you can cover it back up with a piece of electrical tape. I have a '91 XLT and have found this to be a...

    needle on volt meter twitching

I had this problem, its an easy fix, tho it took me longer than expected. Mainly because ford apperently loves to put cable holder is odd places. Here is the thread I started and what I did to fix it. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136127

Chips and wires and sensors oh my?!?

Ummmmm .. no. I prefer to make my repairs the correct way, and so I did. If any one else has this problem its an easy fix. All I had to do was change the negative cable on the battery ($8.99 at walmart). While I was at it, I also changed the positive cable clamp. Afer I cut the old off I...

    how good off road

I just took my '91 out for the first on some local trailes after some major repairs. Except for replacing the broken hubs with WARN manuals it is still stock. While on one particularly rough stretch of trail I had to get thru a dip with a very step drop that was just a bit longer than the length...

Chips and wires and sensors oh my?!?

I am fairly new to this site so I hope I am asking this in the correct section. I have 91 XLT, and after it runs from a cold start for around 2-3 mins. the idle speed drops to around 650RPM. This has the added effect of making the lights (all of them) dim and brighten in time with the...

Have ou done the manual hub conversion?

Correct yosh18981898! The reason I switched to WARN manuals is that little plastic piece was broken, and the cost/benifit just wasn't there. I am running stock tires for now, but plan on a lift and larger tires. Every mechanic I talked to said the stock auto hubs wouldn't hold up well with...

    Not a club?

OK, your not a club, but I do live in Colorado, and I have recently been brought back to my love of 4wheelin'. My ride is still (mostly) stock (for now). I have noticed that this is the first post for at least 30 days, is this area dead? Or just thawing out from this last winter? hehe :)
