    Jet Performance Chip

Chip I had a chip installed and it burned out my computer. I wouldn't recommend it, but I have very bad luck!

    Horn

So my horn was going off randomly throughout the day while my X was parked and locked. I disconnected the horn, but I'm afraid that something is wrong. Anybody have this problem before? :us:

    Head Gasket

two cents What is a head? Ok just kidding. I have a feeling I will find so many things wrong with the engine once I start this project. I plan on waiting until Feb or so, but I will get the test done to see if there really is a problem. Until then, I get to drive my MUSTANG!

    Head Gasket

[ Now back to the head gasket. If you think that the vehicle has a blow head gasket your mechanic needs to perform a block test. This is a chemical test performed by exposing a CO2 sensitive chemical to the cooling system (through the radiator). If the head gasket is blown it will allow exhaust...

    Head Gasket

Gasket I'm not really a great mechanic. Changing the oil on my SUV is sometimes a challenge. I'll have to ask my buddy if he has every done it before. It's depressing because I just had the computer replaced in June 05. I'm tired of putting money into this thing...

    Head Gasket

Somebody please tell me that the brownish foam on my oil filler cap is not indicating a blown head gasket... I did the search and know the answer, so just lie to me. The mechanic estimated $700-$1000 for the job. Is that outrageous or about normal? SW

    Alignment

Ok, I got a front end alignment yesterday to correct a severe pull to the right. The pull is gone, but now I have a clunking noise when I make left hand turns. Is that weird? Guess I'll be going back to the shop Monday. They also recommended a new dampner... Can anybody explain to me what...

    Ignition Switch

Success Changing the switch was not difficult at all. I did not have to remove the steering wheel. The hardest part was finding the release button (last step to actually remove the switch). The pictures helped out alot. Thank you

    Ignition Switch

switch I found one online for $15. Shipping was $3 and I'm about to try this "quick" procedure. I have no doubt that I will not be successful. Earlier, I tried to replace a blown bulb above my speedometer and was not successful. It made me a little angry!!!!

    Ignition Switch

How difficult is it to change my ignition switch? My key is so loose that I can stall my x just by shifting from park to drive... I've found some switches for $20 or less, just not sure how big the job is. YES, I did a search before asking my question! Shawn

    Axle Fluid

Axle How difficult is it to change the fluid? I'm not much of a mechanic, but I can do more than the basics... usally. The bearings look good, as does tranny fluid. I'll have to check the transfer case. I should do a search before I ask "how"...

    smell

I have an awful smell coming from the truck when I drive on the highway. Not sweet, not quite like rotten eggs... Any idea? Is it strange that it only happens on the highway? It's not bad when the windows are down, but winter is coming, so the windows will be up (I live in North Dakota)...

    max psi

All, Thanks for the info. I noticed some unusual tire wear on my x so I thought I'd better ask. They were inflated to 46 PSI!! The ride was horribly rough. Lowering the pressure to 33 made a much smoother ride. My CD player doesn't skip anymore on larger bumps. Thanks again, Shawn

    max psi

I did a search and found little on this topic. My tire says max PSI 35. Do I put the tires at 35 when cold? Or do I account for the raise in temperature by over/under inflating the tire?

    33s

What kind of affect will my 33s have on fuel mileage? How will these tires affect my speedometer? When I'm going 65 on my speedo, I feel like I'm going 80!! It's a little scary and I don't want another speeding ticket. Shawn

    BOO question

Boo I used my code reader on my buddies 92 explorer and it pulled the codes fine. I hope this means my reader is working properly. I took a chance and purchased a used EEC-IV computer. It has greatly improved the overall performance of my vehicle. The idle is smooth and the fuel mileage...

    BOO question

BOO follow up Have you verified that there isn't a problem in the EEC-IV power wires? How can I test the EEC-IV power wires? I am terribly afraid of wiring and electricity, so I've never done a lot of wiring! I will try the cheap man's way this week. Thank you Shawn

    BOO question

Boo He no longer believes the head gasket is the problem. For some reason, he and I both were unable to retrieve any further codes. There was no longer a pass code, both code readers froze when we conducted any testing. There are several other wires cut. Some are from the overseas...

    BOO question

I need some help from any active duty military folks who have been stationed overseas. I am active duty Air Force and recently bought my explorer from another active duty member, who just returned from overseas. Before going to England, he had to add 3-4 lights to the back of his vehicle to...

    CEL, no codes

ideas Can anybody tell me what it would normally cost to change the head gasket? I know for a fact that I can't do it myself, so if it is the cause of my problems, I will be forking out the $$$.

    CEL, no codes

Mechanic I called my trusty local mechanic, who I've went to for the last 10 years, and he thinks I have a head gasket problem. I think he's way off, but I'll drop of the truck today and see what happens. $30 to look at the truck, which is cheap around here. Shawn
