    Anybody use Dynomax performance mufflers?

I've had mine for several years. I picked it up at a muff shop so they installed it. Definitely more volume than stock but not annoying. WOT gives a fun sound.

    Cal Legal CAI

To pass inspection in California, look for that "CARB Approved" sticker. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_oH4iP8_6_p4/SfjSgPSqEFI/AAAAAAAABSk/b9DWRl0NBQ0/intake%20011.jpg I have the K&N FIPK with an AEM dry filter. I'm not endorsing the K&N but it is CARB approved. Like all short ram intakes, it...

List your Explorer and the NOISES it makes!

I'm lucky. No odd noises coming from the truck. I just get an occasional rattle from the jack in the left rear quarter panel storage area.

Ordered my new Tires! White letters in or out?

Off Road In I used to scuff up the sidewalls of the BFGs on my '71 Power Wagon. White letters would have been shredded. My black Sport is a street machine. I have the Firehawk Indy 500s with the raised white letters out, 70's style.

    Upgraded the brakes

I currently have Powerslots and Hawk HPS pads at the corners. When I first picked up my Sport at 92K, the braking scared me. I did the rotors and the pads at 100K and I've enjoyed great stopping power for 30K. I always wondered, though, if I would have gained significant improvement with just...

    damn brake dust

I guess it's how much you can accept dust. I installed some low dust Hawk performance pads and I still see dust after a couple of days. Of course, I'm real **** when it comes to brake dust. I keep my stock 8-hole deer hooves polished with Wheel Wax. That way any dust that appears wipes off...

98 Mountaineer Front License Plate Mount Fasteners

I replaced the bracket and all from LMC Truck for less than dealer cost. I don't know if they sell the fasteners alone, tho.

    Calling all 2 doors..

The multi-leaf pack has a lower progressive spring rate (more linear) than a mono-leaf. The multi-leaf pack has greater load rate. Being less progressive, there is less variance in compression force needed between the weighted and unweighted road situation. Generally with a progressive rate...

    Calling all 2 doors..

Spring Compression Rate I have a pair of multi-leaf packs to be installed. I did hear that the mono-leaf is more progressive so that it becomes stiffer than multi-leafs as it compresses. The softer compressed multi-leafs can cause a change in handling in certain situations. I don't know...

    Black vs Chrome

I have a black sport with stock aluminum deer hoove rims. It's blacked out except for the rims. The rims are kept nice and shiny. I'm not a big fan of chrome or shiny metal but a clean shiny set of wheels, even if the the truck has a couple of weeks worth of dirt on it, makes the truck stand...

    Tire size question.

For a road tire, that's a significant diameter increase for a 15 inch rim. My '96 has the optional stock 235/75x15 that's around 29" in diameter. I'm not an offroader but your selected size dimensions sounds close to the 10.50x15 size which members of this forum say fits 2nd gen wheel wells...

    Indy 500's

Gents, thanks for the comments. I checked. Lincoln still has his head covered so I have several more months of tread left. I'll wait and maybe spend a little more. Maybe not. Ususally, I'm all about performance within a budget. The ol' gal is still shiny black with not a rip in her...

    Indy 500's

Were you running that size on your Ex or Paseo? Sounds kinda small for the EX. If not the Ex, why not? Thanks.

    Indy 500's

Dan, thanks for the comment. I took the fact that it's a passenger car application into consideration. I, then, went to the Firestone site to get the sizing and load rating info. The size I'm interested in works for my purely street machine. I called a Firestone dealer about them and the...

    Indy 500's

I'm coming down to the end of my Goodyear Triple Treads' usable life. Since I've retired the Sport from my daily 60 mile commute, I was looking to dress up the corners with something better looking than the great performing but boring looking Goodyears. I was thinking about mounting Firestone...

    Need more stopping power

Yep, Powerslots and Hawks did the trick. It was scary without them.

    What Muffler to buy...?

I like your comments and your signature. I've been saying that for 20 years and what do they give us, the Dodge Magnum. I guess there are no probs with burly menfolk drivin' that.

    Recommended checks?

When I first got my Sport, I assumed everything needed changing. Besides what you did, I flushed the tranny fluid. changed the diff oil, flushed the cooling system, checked the pads and rotors and bled the lines. I used synthetic where I could.

    autolumination

I've bought headlight bulbs from them I didn't order their Autolumination brand but I ordered their Super Vision H7 bulbs which were Phillips for a much better price than Silver Stars. This operation also offers some of the brightest LEDs I've found. Some of their modules are 1 and 3 watts...

96 sport rear windows? & lowered X shock recommendation

Check out LMC Truck. Their catalog lists tinted and deep tined (dark gray) glass for the rear sides and tailgate of the Sport. More importantly, they list separate part numbers for 95-97 and 98-01 rear side and tailgate glass. That looks like 98+ glass may not work.

    Cash for Clunkers

As many of you know, the Explorer is considered part of this deal. I love my mildly modded '96 Sport but I don't drive it that much because of gas prices. Resale on it is paltry and with the mods it would be rediculous to sell. Now with this program, I can get $4500 for the truck if I...

    BBK + K&N FIPK problem...

Got it. I see your question, now. The K&N intake tube tapers down to fit into the silicone connector. The connector fits both the stock and BBK throttle bodies. So you're asking if the taper down in the intake tube affects performance of the BBK. The BBK also instruction sheet...

    BBK + K&N FIPK problem...

I'm running the same setup. I had no problems with the install. The silicone hose from the K&N kit fit right onto the BBK. It might be be necessary to slightly loosen and expand the hose by soaking it in hot water for several minutes.

    Problem Locking Doors

Thanks. I did a search and saw how to replace the actuator. Looks like a project for next weekend.
