    Question about dash lighting?

Yeah, but good luck finding the bulb. I went to two dealers before getting one that fit. The parts guy pulled a complete rear defroster switch for me...and after opening it up, found that they used a different switch/bulb in the replacement part. There was no part number in the computer for...

    Thanks and goodbye

93,000 miles.....and I think the tranny was going, there was alot of engine noise and vibration...and I was worried about the driveshaft as well. Not to mention the fact that there was alot of seepage....oil, tranny fluid, coolant.....you name it, it was leaking. So it had to go. And 1.9%...

    Thanks and goodbye

Thanks for the well wishes. I have to get used to the feel of the Grand, but so far I really like it alot. I know alot of people have had problems with Jeeps but the same can be said for Explorers (or any american made vehicles!). I had plenty of issues with my Ex, but I still will miss it...

    Thanks and goodbye

I am sorry to go, but my Explorer is aging and needed to be replaced. I got a half-decent deal on a trade in towards a J__P Grand Cherokee and couldn't say no to the 1.9% financing. If only I liked the 2002 Ex better and they had better financing.....Unfortunately, the Jeep forums are pretty...

    does my CEL = O2 sensors ????

I know there are any number of reasons for the CEL light to come on, but from reading posts it seems like 90+% of the time its the O2 sensors. My CEL has been on and off for about a month. No noticeable loss in Gas mileage though. It will come on for 2-3 days...then go off for a couple...

    How dumb can someone be?

actually, I once said that "most of the world is stupid"....until a friend of mine pointed out that is incorrect. While most of the world may be dumber than I am, "most of the world" is in fact "about average".

    SOHC...

I don't believe the SOHC engine was available until around 96 or 97. Most likely you have the OHV engine...overhead valve. Same as I do in my 97. only 160 horses, but from what I understand its been around forever and is quite dependable. I don't believe Ford offers the OHV anymore, all...

    2000 Limited warped rotors

Go to the top Start with the General Manager of the dealership. If you have to, make a stink in the showroom. If the GM doesn't help take care of things then write directly to Ford.

    Overdrive

Well, I am no expert...but I keep OD off unless I am on the highway or driving over 50mph for extended periods. Leaving OD on in conditions where you vary speeds above and below the 40-50mph range makes the trans flip flop back and forth from 4th to 5th. This can't be good for the...

    Escape reliability?

actually, Motor Trend mentioned the "appearance" of the Escape and said that they much preferred the exterior of the Mazda version....the Tribute. I'd have to agree that the Mazda clone is more stylish...

    Escape reliability?

Find a copy of the March Motor Trend....maybe april or february though....they compared all the Mini-suv's....the Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Xterra...etc....they ranked the Escape as the best. They actually took it up in the mountains to test it in snow. They felt it was a...

    Green "Daddy" Goose

Congratulations! Cute baby... Just tell your wife to be glad she didn't have me as a baby.... 13 lbs 7 ounces.......I didn't even fit in the incubator! I turned out to only be 6'7" 240 in the long run though... So...more importantly....did you drive your wife and son home from the...

    I just drove a 2002...

I was bored at work this week, so I decided to spend my lunch taking a 2002 for a test drive. At first I didn't like the new style, but it has grown on me. I do agree with those who pointed out the very minimal differences between the xlt, eddie bauer, and limited. This is certainly...

Goose's 99 Limited. Before and After

I love your truck.....and I hate you for having it. Give it to me now. Please? I hate bitter jealous people like myself. Damn, a dealer near me has a 2001 LTD in the same color that I could get a sweet deal on....if only I had the money. DAMN!!! Well, awesome job on your truck.

    New carpet....& seat covers

check with JC Whitney.....they have all sorts of things like this. It may not be on their site www.jcwhitney.com so try calling them and asking. I don't see explorer carpeting in their catalog, but they sell it for just about everything else. If they don't carry it, they may be able to get...

    Center Rear "Shock"

my response is not meant to sound smart-assed, so I hope it doesn't come off that way...but I am aware of the search function and use it quite a bit. I used it in an attempt to find the answer to my question, and came upon the 3 threads you mentioned. However, none of them actually answered...

    Center Rear "Shock"

There is some sort of dampener that runs from the rear passenger wheel well to what appears to be the drive shaft. It looks like a 3rd "shock". Well, the bearing is shot and it sqeaks over every bump. The only place that seems to carry this "shock" it is the "Dealer". They want $52 for...

    boat/trailer question

I will be using my Ex to tow a 14' Boston Whaler to the ramp (and unload) and back a few times this summer. Can one of you "Boat Experts" tell me what the approx. weight of this boat and trailer is? And is the bumper strong enough to handle this (3800 Lb according to Ford) or do I need a class...

    help w/ self diagnosis

I am trying to find the cause of the "check engine" light that keeps popping up (I am betting O2 sensors). I found the instructions on how to pull the codes using a jumper wire and the check engine light. However, I cannot....for the life of me....find the "box" where the tester would be...

    I've been hit....

So its a beautiful sunny day...I've got the windows open, the shades on, some tunes going.....and WHAMMO. Yep. I was just minding my own business sitting at a red light and BAM...I get hit from behind. So I pull into the parking lot and see that I have been hit by a Pontiac Sunfire. I get...

    HELP: 4x4 lights flashing

Yours is a fairly common problem...happened to me about 2 years ago. Do a search on the forum for "4wd lights" and you will find a number of posts. Mine happened to be the transfer case motor or something like that....it was about a $300 repair, but was under warranty for me. There are a...

    Plastic Problems..... *grumble*

well, I don't know what your engine compartment looks like, but here is a pic of mine from my 97 OHV. Dead Link Removed If yours is the same the airbox pops out without removing fasteners. Just get a good grip and pull up and towards the driver side and it should pop out. I am not sure...
