How do I know if a transmission from an 2000 Explorer fits my 1997 Explorer XLT? My 5R55E is busted so I need to buy a used one.

The chassinumber on the 2000 is 1FMDU73EXYUA58784, can that tell me
something?

As long as there both 4.0 liters it will work the 5.0l used the 4r70w

it will work but plan to use the sensors from the 97, especially the digital transmission range sensor (black box mounted on the shifter arm)

Also if your 97 is a 4x then make sure the 2000 trans is also a 4x

Many thanks for the quick replies.

I picked up the new 5R55E today and it looks slightly different from the old one. One of the sensors is placed
on the top of the transmission on the '00, near the bellhousing. The old one
had the sensor on the side. Is this the transmission range sensor you speak of?

I hoping it still fits, using my old sensors but mounted on the new '00.
Or is it better not switch sensors?

Not doing this procedure myself, a mechanic is. But he was sceptical
about the '00 working on my '97 X.

Please excuse my poor english, I'm from sweden =)
