This morning when I was leaving for work, my vehicle actually
accelerated when I pressed the brake pedal. This almost caused an
accident as I shot out into the middle of traffic. Have others
experienced this problem?

During the remainder of my morning ride the brakes were fine. Last
night, I do recall a slight sensation like what happened this morning,
but it was minor in comparison and I had actually thought it was just
my vehicle slipping a bit on wet pavement (it rained all day). After
the occurance this morning, I'm wondering if my vehicle is safe to
drive.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Any others with this
experience?

Sounds like a sticky/warped throttle plate and/or "Fat-Foot Syndrome" ;)

Take off the intake tube from the Throttle Body and work the throttle cable. See if the throttle plate is rubbing rubbing at all. Make sure the throttle cable is free all the way from the Throttle Body to the pedal itself.

Check the throttle line. Make sure it is away from the brake pedal and booster lever. Most likely it is. But just check to be sure. Then if it is not close to any of that and cannot make contact then you most likely have a fat foot. Just be more careful next time while driving.

I am going to guess it is the vacuum brake booster. I would check for loose hose coming out of the brake vacuum before spending any money..

I bet your floor mat is riding up on the pedals.

I'm with the floor mat or the fat foot. I find that Explorer pedals are uncomfortabaly close together, and when wearing work boots I sometimes find myself hitting the gas and the brake at the same time.

Aftermarket edals?

i am almost positive that it was just an accident of hitting the gas at the same time. One explorer i drove had those wanabe racing pedals bolted to the factory ones, and they were even wider, so it was almost impossible to step on the brake without hitting the gas.

If it ever happens again, just put it into neutral, that way you wont hit someone.

Wouldnt it be a quicker process to just merely lift your foot and place it a little further left? :)

I thought I heard something about Ford consulting with Audi on foot pedal placement.... :D

if the problem isn't hitting the brake pedal and gas pedal at the same time, and you take your foot off the brake, then you have just caused your self an accident.

i suggest putting it into neutral first, and then seeing if it was actually your foot pressing the gas pedal.

although it doesn't give my iq, i am smarter than giving a response like i did without a reason behind it.

Ok so let me get this straight......Take your foot of and readjust.......5 seconds.......Still possibility of caosting forward a little.......Put the vehicle in neutral......2 seconds.......Absolute surety that you will coast forward......

I didnt ask your iq and I dont care. We are not comparing brainpans here. But if you want I am sure we can. Your remedy just seemed kind of more harmful than helpful....Also you got to realize that in a semi-stressfull situation as will the person be in when performing this maneuver they will most likely need to keep the process simple. By that logic why dont we just skip all that and throw it into park!
