Try one of your other keys.

If I understand what you're saying, nothing happens when you turn the key to START. A couple of things to try...

Try starting it in neutral rather than PARK.

Check/clean/tighten your battery terminals.

If you had a problem with the anti-theft system (PATS) the engine/starter would spin, but the truck would not start, as PATS turns off the fuel injectors not the starter.

Oh, and get another transponder key made ASAP because there's no way to bypass PATS if you loose your one key. Have a locksmith or Ford make you a second key. Don't have Walmart or Ace clone your existing key. Once you have 2 working (non-cloned) keys you can program your own.

thanks for the advice...i checked all that and they seem fine...I did not know that Pats cuts the injectors I thought i had a stater interupt

Just having a second key may NOT allow you to program any more on your own. My owners manual says you have to have two factory keys. Of course your mileage may vary.

Jiggle the shift lever or put it in neutral as suggested. Of course press your brake pedal when starting.

The second key doesn't have to be factory key. Just NOT a cloned key, but a transponder key that can be programmed into the EMC. I buy spare keys on ebay (much less expensive than the dealer $25 price) and I have my dealership program the second key for me. Used to cost me $45, but I don't know what they're charging these days. I know they used to charge $35 just to get you your factory key-less entry code, when all you need to do is to read the sticker on the RAP module.

As I recall I paid something like $17 for a new transponder key and 2 new door remote key fobs on eBay for my '00 Mountaineer. They've worked flawlessly for almost 4 years now.

If you don't want to spend the money to buy transponder keys and programming you can remove the transponder chip from you one key and glue it inside the steering column trim near the reader ring. Then you can just use regular non-transponder keys. I don't recommend this though, as you're defeating PATS.

At any rate, your one key isn't your problem. Either power isn't getting from the battery to the starter, or the starter may be bad.

Good info Koda, thanks.
