Hi,

I've got an 01 Explorer Sport and I've got two issues that I'd love some help troubleshooting.

1) The Oil Pressure Gauge does not always set itself properly. I'll start the car and it will be in the 'none' or bottom position indicating no pressure, after a minute or two it will shoot up to the middle position and be fine. This happens sporadically, and I can't 'consistently' correlate it to temp, incline etc. I had a mechnanic look at it and they weren't sure either...they didn't see any actual leaks etc, so their assumption was potentially a faulty sensor, but no real mechanical issue. Any thoughts? I had replaced a bulb behind the tach a few months back, is it possible there's a short?

2) This issue is brand new, I was heading back from the mountains and was switching into 4-Hi (nothing new) due to snow and ice, and it didn't shift over...it didn't even make the 'clicking' sound. I switched it back and forth a few times, and eventually left it in the 4WD position, and after a few minutes, it 'clicked' and the dash light lit up. I had noticed earlier in the day while driving that it did something similar where I was in 4WD and it clicked in and out like there was a short. Once it was in 4WD it stayed and I didn't see it happen again.

Thoughts?

Thanks for all the help!

#2

check the relay, then check the plug, then check the motor on the transfercase

I think that I may have forgot to mention that I'm a complete 'n00b' at all of this- so please go easy on me...The relays are in with the fuses and should be identified in the manual, correct?

Which plug? What am I looking for on the motor on the transfer case? (do you have a picture/diagram I can reference by chance so I know I'm looking in the right spot?)

Thanks!

#1 I'm no expert but sounds like there could be a problem with the sensor as the mechanic said or the gauge itself. Possibly knocked something while you were working behind the cluster?

#2 sounds like a problem with the switch (I assume by "clicking" you're referring to the feedback sound the switch makes when you change it's position?). Hopefully it's just a matter of cleaning the inside of the switch due to grease or dirt build up.

And yes you are correct, the relays are located in the fusebox under the hood. Check your owner's manual for the relay number.
