happy Friday!
On my commute this morning the transmission failed.
Drive does not work
Reverse 95% does not work.
Gear selections 1,2 got me to work.
Could this be a torque converter issue?

Edit:
2001 Explorer 4.0

Any thoughts?

I can get 3rd in D if I upshift at speed with overdrive off

Researching
1 Could be overdrive sprag
2 Valve body

I know this sounds super obvious but have you checked your fluid, also what does it look like?

I'm definitely not an expert on trannys by any means but it sounds a little bit like a pressure issue.

Update
Shop says tranny’s done needs rebuild
I generally trust the shop
And a full rebuild and install for 2400
1700 for reman trans at autozone

I had the same issue a while back, sorry to say it buddy but you’re gunna have to rip out the trans, tear it apart,& rebuild it like I did . Most likely your clutches are burnt up and stuck together. I garentee one of your drums inside the trans is trashed and as for the no reverse that would be the overdrive sprag,. Iv got an 01 Explorer sport 5r55e trans. It’s a hell of a lot cheaper to rebuild yourself I spent maybe $400-$500 all together. Do a complete Rebuild on the valve body also

Check out my post. 5r55e rebuild help, forward clutch drum

Hey, I know you messaged me about this issue. If you decide to get a rebuild done I do believe the OD Sprag is not covered in a standard rebuild which was most likely the issue with mine (same symptoms) so if you go that route make sure that is replaced (even though the shop will see a torn up one, they might not replace it haha)

Ok
Shop still has my explorer
They claim the rebuilt trans is causing a problem with the transfer case
Specifically the chain in the transfer case

Well after months I have the car back and running again
We Never identified what exactly went wrong in the tranny and then the 4wd after the tranny was rebuilt
But seems to be operating smoothish

Months??? Holy cow
and a t case too?? Oh man....sounds like you got a raw deal Glad its back up and running

Agreed. If my tranny shop had my truck longer than a week, I’d have it towed away.

I hear yah
