My Explorer is coming up on 100,000. I have an oil change at 99,600 and am wondering if I can do or should do anything for this milestone of the truck. I haven't owned a vehicle with mileage this low before (I know it's not that low but compared to my past vehicles it seems like brand new) and want to do everything I can so it will stay in good condition.

Also, what else can I do either at future oil changes or just whenever I have a chance to take car of it.

Any input is much appreciated. I really love my Explorer and want it to last a very long time.

Fill 'er up with gas when you hit 100k!

Lol jk:p: im gonna watch this thread...cus when I sell my 92, im doing a full tuneup on my 95, like all the fluids, spark plugs, wires, etc so maybe this will give me more ideas...

Well theres a couple for you,
full fluid flush, replace spark plugs and wires, check your air filter, probably could use a new fuel filter, maybe Seafoam it, or use some gas treatment...

Depends on how long you want to keep her, and how much preventative maintenance you want to tackle.

If it were me, I'd put in plugs and wires, fuel filter and air filter. Replace the PCV Valve, rotate the tires, check the brakes, shocks, and front end components (end links, bushings, etc.) at the same time. For fluids, I'd do oil and filter (which you've already done) and probably the transmission fluid and coolant. I'd just check the power steering and brake fluid.

For the cost involved if you do all of that, you're doing some good PM on your truck, and heck- for about the cost of one monthly payment on a new car. :)

How long have you had your Explorer?

If it were me, I would also service the differentials and transfer case in addition to what is listed above. Of course, if you're 2wd, you only have one differential and no transfer case.

I've only had the Explorer for about 3 months and have been nothing but pleased with it since I bought it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will definitely do the majority of them.

Also on a side note. I have also been thinking about installing a cold air intake and possibly getting the exhaust done as well. Any recommendations on a brand or style I should look into?

V6 or V8?

Greetings fellow Calgarian and welcome to the best Explorer resource anywhere.

You've a actually got more choices with the SOHC V6 on the intake front than I did on my V8. MAC makes the best kit for the money, and if money is not an object, consider K&N or Volant. I had the Volant kit (and a Mac before that) on my old V6 Explorer Sport and adapted it for use on my V8. Consider rigging up your own as well. Lots of creative people out there have made intakes on the site. I think I even have an old air intake tube in my parts bin that was used on the Volant kit that works for the SOHC.

As far as exhaust goes, there are some good shops in town. I really like Minute Muffler over in Forest Lawn (17th Ave and 52nd St SE). Carline up in Marlborough seems highly recommended (Although I haven't used them). I have had good experiences with Carline on Ogden Road and another place near Chinook (sorry, I can't remember their name). Just pick a muffler and get them to install it for you. Consider getting new pipes from the cats back (2.5" is optimal) with or without resonator (depending on how much drone you can tolerate in the cab).

I had a Flowmaster SUV 50 Series in my old Sport. I liked it. I actually scored it at Mopac up on 16th Ave NW for way cheaper than anyone else had it for and had the place near Chinook install it. My current muffler is made by Flo Pro. Not as well known as other brands, but they are a very high quality muffler made up in Red Deer. I was in the US recently and found a muffler shop in Wisconsin that recommends Flo Pro over all the well known US brands (Flowmaster, Magnaflow etc). I got my Flo Pro installed at the Forest Lawn Minute Muffler as above. I like those guys over there. I recently had headers installed during my trip to the US and really like the sound of my exhaust now. Mellow, but aggressive. Sort of a Flo Pro trademark.

If you go exhaust/intake, consider getting custom tuning to tie it all together. I use Hensonperformance.com. James is a site sponsor and a great guy. He's in Alabama, but knows a LOT more about Explorer tuning than anyone locally. Once set up, he can send you tunes via email as your tastes/mods change so don't worry about him being so far away. He is very well regarded on this site.

As far as maintenance goes, consider going synthetic in every space you can. I use Amsoil exclusively and only change the oil once a year (the oil I use is rated to 35,000 miles or one year....I only do about 10,000 km a year). If you're going plugs and/or wires go good old OEM Ford Motorcraft.

Stick around. This site is a killer resource. There are quite a few other Albertans around too.

Welcome TBV!

Wow celly, your post was great. I will definitely look into that and make some calls on pricing. About how long does it take to get an exhaust done?

Also, what are peoples thoughts on throttle bottle spacers. i was told that it is a great way to get some fuel economy and power but haven't heard of them before.

Thanks again.

Throttle body spacers do little in fuel injected applications. Save your money. I've yet to see anyone prove that they actually do anything in all the years I've been on EF. You'll find people giving you anecdotal evidence about them noticing this and noticing that, but they're just trying to justify their lighter wallet. The general view is that they're glorified snake oil. Steer clear.

I think my catback took an hour or so. Maybe a bit longer. That was cutting out the old system, bending new pipes from the cats back, installing new muffler and installing a stainless steel tip. The guys at Minute Muffler in Forest Lawn don't rush their work. The guy near Chinook was the same.

Glad to be of service and welcome again.

Good to know, good to know. I will probably message you in the future about some other after market ideas.

If you don't mind that is.

Not at all. What part of the city are you in? Just curious. I'm in SE (McKenzie Towne).
