2001 Ranger Supercab 4x4
Hey Guys, Really would appreciate input from anyone with knowledge of the below described issues or has had the same problems.
I recently purchased a 2001 Ranger Supercab, AT, 4x4 with about 83200 miles. (2) things are happening that I feel need to be addressed:

1: When shifting into reverse or into drive from a stop, there is a slight delay before the trans engages and sometimes there will be a noticeable jerk when taking of in drive. Trans seems to shift ok after that.
2: The fuel guage will drop rapidly not long after fillup and appears to consistantly 1/4 tank less than I actually have.

There are several TSB's on the NHTS website that list this issues but unfortunately what was done by dealers thoughout the country is not show.
Has anyone had similiar problems with their Ranger and what they did to correct it??????? These items were apparently mentioned by the previous owner and show up in a printout from the dealer but obviously have not be fixed. Would really appreciate any input from members who have had similiar problems.

Change the filter and fluid in the transmission. Make sure all the fluid levels are full. As for the fuel guage, could be the sending unit. It is integrated into the fuel pump in the tank. The level sensor may be your problem.I would check all the elect. connections before I pulled the fuel pump.

Thanks for ur reply. The dealer was supposed to change the fluid/filter before I bought it so have to assume it was done. Drove it yesterday and it didn't have the lag in fwf or reverse so will have to see today if it still happens. The dealer said the fuel gauge issue was apparently the result of a faulty designed fuel pump/sensor and Ford has come out with an improved pump/sensor part to address as they have had numerous TSB's concerning this. Will have to see if I can work something out on this with the dealer..
