replaced the drivers side gears & chain a few months ago.
everything went all right - thanks to the VERY helpful instructions in this forum..
crusing down the fwy yesterday when it begin to sound like pre-igntion knock. shifted form 5th to 4th, eased up on the gas - sound went away.
step on the pedal and the noise grew.
power gradually went away and we coasted to the side of the road.
wasn't hot, oil pressure was good.
now the engine just spins like there's no compression.
with 152k i'm thinking it's time for a rebuild.
since this is mama's daily driver and i have to rent a replacement - i'm considering purchasing a new or rebuilt long-block.
Q - can i swap a 4.0 OHV in place of the SOHC?
i know if i find a donr w/5.0 i can make that swap - but i don't have the time for that..
