alfa to toyota
let me start by saying the truck was given to me by a friend who was being deployed...when he got back his dad poped for a new jeep so i kept the explorer..that was 3 years ago...and many little issues have been adressed

im down to 1 single issue thats got me at my wits end..the 4wd..and if i cant get it working its being sold...

im no noob to working on stuff being in my 40s ive been at it since my early teens rebuilding engines etc and keep my family fed doing it..and ive scavanged the board for as much info as i can but have gotten mixed answers...

mind you this rig is not an "auto" 4wd but is a 2wd,4high,4low..the system worked for exactly 1 use when i got it and hasnt since, shift motor is new(2 new units tested just to be sure), fuses new, shift select switch new
the dash shift lights DO NOT LIGHT nor can i hear any "click"

10/00 build date fully loaded 2dr sport v6 tow package leather console auto ac, sub..basicly someone checked every possible box by the looks of things

all that said i have scavanged all the wreckers for the past 2 years on the hunt for a 4wd control module as i suspect its the culprit..yet...ive NEVER found one..and im starting to think that im looking in the wrong spot on other rigs or that i have a 1 year only PITA, my unit "1L54-7H417-AC" is factory mounted behind the passenger kick panel..where i seem to normaly find ABS/airbag? units on all other rigs...ive removed the radio panel in hunt for them but still come up empty...i have NEVER found another sport with it mounted where mine is thats for certain and the few units i have found are 3 plug not 2..also if it maters or not my front seats are not air bag equiped...ive been hunting for a better condition front driver seat as well and have never come across the same pattern further baffling me ...what i do know of my unit is that if unplugged the dome light and mirror lights no longer function so i know its atleast doing something..i think i should note however that the cruise control does not work...if its in the same module i have no idea

yes im aware there are "new" units availible..but from my reading its hit n miss as to if it fixes the issue or if you get the correct coded unit etc.....so id like to go the 20$ used fix first "if" someone can point me at where to find them on what rigs

after the f150 spring, desag of the tbars and factory nerf bar removal its not a bad lil rig and been earning its keep as a bike hauler

Can't help with your 4wd issue. As far as the seats, the '01-03 Sports had a number of options, but the solid gray low back and solid gray high back seats are unique to the '01-03 Sports and '01-05 (or maybe just '01 & 02) Sport Tracs.

thanx for the heads up..however i have the low back SOLID "light" brown leather without the perferations and without the EB logo tho some of the EB ones are the closest match in style..they are actualy very "simple" looking for leather compared to most of the ones ive seen

Yeah, those are going to be hard to find. Probably '01-02 Sport or Sport Trac only, and most had gray seats whether leather or cloth. I think the '03-05 Sport Tracs had 2 tone leather seats. Sports had more options, but those are probably the most uncommon.

Based on what I've read on the forum, you're probably correct in thinking it's the module. But it doesn't have to be from a Sport. The 4 door Explorers up through '01 with the same 4X4 system - 2wd, 4wd high, and 4wd low - should work, although there may be variations in the older models.

the problem ive had is that the ONLY modules ive found are the wrong ones..but ive found many a fresh explorer to a wrecker where i cant seem to locate a module anywhere.....ive only checked behind the radio area and the passenger kick panel
