So I inherited a 1995 explorer with the 4.0L engine and 5 spd manual transmission.
The girl who gave it to me gave up hope too after investing hundreds of dollars in mechanics and repairs.
Here's the issue.

Sometimes the vehicle will just random lose power. If u tough it out long enough it will just regain it randomly as it lost it. I have found that if I push in the clutch and shut off the ignition, restart the vehicle then it's fine for a few miles. Then yet again it will screw up. It seems if I give it wide open throttle and manage to get it above 2200 rpm it will also sometimes free up and run for a little while.
The sure fix is to shut off and restart the ignition.
The check engine light comes on randomly but I cannot get a code. I have tried using the diagnostic tool at O'Reilley Auto Parts but it fails to connect to my trucks computer. The check engine light coming on and off do not seem to be connected to the power loss as sometimes it will be off and remain off when the truck has the power loss.
I cannot afford to take this to a garage so any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
