'01 Sport Trac Back Window Motor spool.

Ok so I have been trying to fix my rear window (not rear SIDE window but back facing window) and have finally narrowed it down for sure it is the motor. However in my DIY efforts of removing the motor I went too far without realizing what I was doing and pulled the regulator cable spool thing with it and now the cables are all laying out and I find it literally impossible to get it wound back up and the plastic holder installed again. Does anyone happen to have any tips or ideas how I can remedy this goof? Also any idea where I can find a motor for cheap? everywhere I look they are around $150 or more. I did see one for about $100.

You are a life saver just with the link that saves a ton! I do have a theory of how to get the spool back in but it is just in my head lol Ill let you know how it works out when I try it.

I am new here but wanted to try and ask if you ever found the correct way to rewind the cable up on the spool on the back glass of your sport trac. Let me know if u get a chance. Thanks.

2001 sport trac back glass issue

When I attempted to change the back glass window motor the insturctions tell you to pry the motor off with a screwdriver to leave the spool in the plaastic housing of the window regulator. I was not successful and the spool came part way off with the motor. Nothing happened except the cables that wrap around the spool came part way on coiled. What confuses me is the the cable seems to actaully twist, not just cross, but twist. This doesn't make any sense to me because obviously the cable are not going to smooth slide up and down. However thsi appears to be there natural position. This is why I trying to find some good close up photos or diagrams. I am now decided that perhaps nothing was wrong with the motor and the twisted cable was the issue all along. I have read that the back glass motors are smart motors and will go into "error" mode with any type of problem. If I could get those photos I could re-wind my cables correctly and resemble and test. I think it would work then. Any help or ideas are much appreciated. Thanks

Maybe someone can jump in here. I've never taken the motor off of a regulator nor the spool apart. Wish I could be more help.

That would be great if anyone has worked on theirs and can explain or even better would snap a few clear and close-up photos of their spool with the motor removed.

Just wanted to update...I was able to research the Internet a bit and kind of figure out how the window regulator works on back glass power windows. After doing this I decided to just re-wind the cables as I decided they should be, (Some common sense with an educated guess as I like to call it) put the spool back in to position, mounted the replacement motor, completed the initialize steps for the "smart" motor and like that it works like new. Then I used a little silicone spray lube in the window tracks and the window is operating great. Now on to my next issue…

Next issue is coolant leak. Now before we jump in with the common suggestions let me explain what I have done thus far to resolve the issue. First off I replaced the water pump last summer. Seems good no signs of leaks at all. Still getting coolant smell.
Then I replaced the lower T housing, O-rings, thermostat, as well as the O-rings on the sensors. Smell gone but coolant slowly getting low as well as visual small leaks around the fitting or connection areas.
Now is when I start to get frustrated. I had a mechanic check for head gasket problem by pressure testing the system. Checked out good. He then did this gas emissions/combustion leak test. My truck passed, so we concluded no head gasket leaks.
I then changed both the upper and lower hoses and clamps as well as the radiator cap. Again all seemed good for a short time but then again I noticed green coolant leaking around the fittings and connection areas. (Like the hose clamp areas.) Truck warms up and cools down. Heater blows hot. Coolant is circulating thru system but it acts like the water pressure inside the system is too high and causing leaks of coolant at the weakest points. (Like the hose clamps.)
I am considering putting a lower pressure cap on. For a short time when my leaking as more severe I used basically a no pressure cap and experienced no leaking problems at all. Ran great. Heater worked. Etc. At this point I am at a complete lose. Has anyone encountered this frustration and did you find an answer. Suggestions and comments are greatly welcomed now. Thanks.
