It's pretty tall, you need to drop it a few inches. How's it flex?
Yup I might be lowering it a little. It looks higher in the picture than it really is. If you look at Chad's pictures they really are about the same height. I don't know how it flexes. There's no steering and the front driveshaft isn't hooked up yet. I'm still working on things like getting the ride height where I want it and getting my steering components in.
I have yet to really "test" my explorer out off road. But does our little 4.0 have the goods to push those 35's?
I know i buried my trac on Christmas after hitting some ice and ending up in the ditch, and she was able to walk her self up out after doing some digging. Which shocked the hell out of me.
I'll be putting the 35's on with in the next week or so. I've read that km2 thread front to back half a dozen times trying to decide if thats actually the route i want to go with the truck haha...
I noticed yesterday how much the body lift helps working on the truck... i was able to change all the spark plugs while sitting on my cooler hahaha... Didnt have to lay over the engine bay and bust knuckles on them...
I think 4.10s are plenty if you drive highway all the time and know you aren't going to chirp tires off the line. The 4.10s are what's kept my fuel economy decent. I still average around 15 or so. I drive mostly highway 65-75mph. I do use overdrive though. Like Hugh mentioned for the trails lower gearing (numerically higher) is better but for something that was seeing the road everyday and putting miles on it I liked the 4.10s. Using a calculator I came up with the new ratio as being equivalent to 3.60 something, which is slow but no big deal once you get going.
Correct me if im wrong 01, but werent you running around for a while now with stock gears and those 35's?
I realize that i can gear my axles and make my 4.0 push them, but i was more refering to the next 4-6 months while im gathering the parts if my truck will have enough umph to push the 35's...
Yes I've had this setup for 8 months and about 8-9K miles and I have been happy with how everything has held up. I think my ball joints were in pretty good condition because years of running 35s will tear up the IFS components. Now you can prevent a lot of wearing out by upgrading components. I never really looked into it because if something broke up front it was just going to sit until I did my SAS. Offtrac knows a lot about that stuff though since he's upgraded his front end.
