My 02 XLT purchased for my daughter first car overdrive light was blinking.did research and bought it,replaced solenoid pack and shifts fine.i thought 4wd low light would come off but noticed fuse 17 and 18 missing, replaced them 4low light blinks 22 times and won't come out of 4 low. If you hit 4 high it lights up but I can't get it to auto any ideas?? I need to fix for her before it snows. If I pull fuses it drives 2wd ok and 4 low light stays lit.

Anyone home?

Did I post this in the right area, I here echos???:exp:

Yes, you're in the right area.

Might try a search on 4 wheel drive module. It is located behind the glove compartment. There are quite a few posts about how these modules can quit and good advice on how to replace them. Need to have your VIN number to be sure you get the correct one.

Also try a search on here re: 4WD hi/lo motor. As I understand it, there's an electric motor that switches the transfer case from 4WD hi to 4WD lo and this motor can have problems with the harness getting pinched or otherwise damaged, not allowing the motor to engage and make the switch. I believe it only controls the hi/lo switch.

Hi Mike,

I have not really used 4 low in the 10+ years that I have owned my 2003 XLT 4.0 and have never checked the fuses. However, after looking through the Owner's Manual, I have found some information that may be helpful. Page 205 gives some reasons why the 4 low light will flash. For example, 1. The system is waiting for driver input (brake and/or neutral gear).

Since the vehicle is always in 4 auto, there is no light that is on in this mode. If slip is detected while driving, the system will automatically engage while in this setting. This is the normal, everyday driving setting.

I have pasted a link to the 2002 Explorer Owner's Manual. An explanation of the operation of the Control Trac 4 wheel drive system starts on page 201.

Reading through this section will give you a good understanding of how the Control Trac system works and when to use, or not use, 4 auto, high or low.

I hope this information helps.
