Well, after 11 years of daily use and 213k miles, my wife bought a new '13 Fusion Hybrid this week. Our Explorer is still running and driving, although for the first time last week, the O/D off light was blinking and 'Check Transmission' message appeared on the dash. She drove it for 5 more days and this never happened again. She asked what we could have done to prevent this and I told her the trans was probably supposed to go out about 65k miles ago, lol!
So, we decided to keep the Explorer, figured since we bought it new and it has been such a dependable vehicle that it would be crazy to get rid of it. Not to mention trade-in value would be ridiculous. I think it will be a great back-up and it's always handy to have a 4x4 and something to haul stuff when needed. I will be tinkering with it over time, fixing and improving things.
