Title pretty much says it all. Only 33k miles and she started making noises. Not much slippage. I guess they had it up on the rack, running in park and it slipped into gear. How that happened, I dunno? Guess the "improved" A4LD still can't hold the 240 horses of the 4.6. :-(

I guess they worked on it and found out it was a bad sun gear. What the heck is that?

We almost got a new car too. They had it on a drive on lift, idleing in neutral with the e-brake on and the wheels chocked. Some how jumped(and not a small jerk, a LARGE ONE) into drive. They said if it wouldn't have been for the e-brake, we'd be getting a new car. :(

They suposidly(sp?) have the best tranny dudes in the valley. I guess we'll find out!

Thats what im wondering..

Idiots.

Yes, not the same version. I do believe its the 5R55W? and the 4.0s have the 5R55S?

I think the sohc uses the 5r55e?

not the new ones. They're "updated". Must have updated the name of them  And only Ford would put a 240horse V8 with a pinto tranny. Seriously, what are they thinking?

Guess they're gonna have it a while. We got a brand new '05 Focus as a rental. I must say its a very nice car for only $17k. And it moves quite nicely with teh 2.0 and an auto. I like it so much I'm gonna go after school and look at an Black '05 ST. Completely loaded. :D

Few quick pics of the "beast" :p

You want something funnier? The new 300 horsepower Mustang will have a 5R55N. The Lincoln LS also uses one of our 5Rs. I believe it was the 5R55S until it was changed to 5R55N in 2002. They don't seem to have any problems though. My 5R is great.

Big problem I have with the new 5Rs are the supposedly "life-time" tranny fluids.

bring back the 4r70's!

Ford idea of "improving" the tranny is sealing it off and making it virtually unservicable and uncheckable. Niiiicccee.

My stepmoms EB has been hesitating after coming out of reverse so I have to keep an eye on it. This is the 5.4L though with only 3k miles.

Life-Time fluids my ass. Why didn't they keep the 4R70s like they did with the Aviator. It worked, did its job, and you never heard from it. There's another '02 in the lot that was traded in because the tranny went and was out of warranty. Practically identical to ours except it was a Limited. I see no problem with the Mustang using it. Its a much lighter car and which has less load on it. But yes, it can't handle the 240 horses, let alone 300.

On a side note the dealer got a Five Hundred in. Looks awsome! AWD. Not sure what tranny it had. They can have the CVT(lets see how bad Ford screws this up) or a 6 speed auto(yay! another gear to go bad  ) Not a bad looking car though, but I'd never pay the $30k price tag for a high sitting car.
