I moved out to Oregon from NY and drove it across the US and back in NY I was getting like 386 miles to a tank, now I am getting like 250, if that. I took it to a dealership, they hooked it up to the computor and couldn't find anything. They replaced the fuel filter, cause they said that was pretty plugged and ran a emmision cleaner through it. It didn't help at all really. It jerks really hard when I gas it hard like somethings slipping too. Just wondering if anyone had an idea of what to do. I am going through money like crazy putting gas in it. thanks appreciate any help!

11 mpg is not great for the 4.0 SOHC...

Looks like you'll have to wait it out until something happens at a consistant rate long enough to find it.

25 gallon it think, or 23

22.5

The computer isn't going to show any codes unless the engine light is on. Also, unless you have like, 80k they changed the fuel filter for no reason. Besides, how did they know it was clogged? There is no such thing as a filter tester....LOL What's even funnier is that the Haynes book say that the fuel filter was designed to never be changed. Wonder how they figured that one?

What's your mileage?

11 miles, and i drive to work so i should be getting like 19, do you know if the jerking when you accelerate fast has anything to do with it? Also when I put it into reverse it sometimes stalls. they said no fuel barley came out of the filter, and you are suppose to replace them every 15, 000 miles

I have 42,000 miles on it

I'd say that there is a problem that your dealer missed. If they charged you for the diagnosis, I'd be taking it back. If it's stalling and jerking, that can definately be a cause or effect of the problem you are having.

Ya, I'd have them look at the drive train components since you talked about jerking. Does it have AWD?

I have a 04' and I experienced the problem that you are talking about. Jerking when you accelerate fast and when I put it into reverse it sometimes stalls then jerked before it would move. Of course mine was under warranty. They said that some valves were bad in my transmission. They also had a recall on the transmission fluid. I had to bring the truck in again to have them replace it. Now everything runs smooth.
