Last fall I bought an 02 Expo 4.6 V-8 off of a buddy of mine that took great care of it. 190,000 on it, body in great shape, still a good running vehicle. He did tell me every now and then, it would seem to cut out and miss, you give it some throttle and it would run fine. Well, this summer it got worse. Never threw a CEL, but for the heck of it, I replaced the TPS, no difference and I was only out $28. I remembered my old 86 F-150 having issues with the Idle Air Controller, so I replaced it. I was going to work that evening at 70 mph without my foot touching the throttle.. so I pulled over and unplugged the IAC. Ran fine. Took the "new" one back to NAPA and had them order another, same issue. It will idle at 3000 rpm come back to 700 or so until you touch the pedal and then back to 3000. Anyone have these problems before??? Thank you in advance, Nick

floor mats?

Do you have a floor mat on the driver side? If so, maybe it is out of position and holding the pedal down. You might also try lubricating any bearings associated with the accelerator pedal. Also, check the throttle plate return spring.

there is a set screw on the TB its self as well. This needs to be adjusted correctly so that the IAC can properly manage that idle air flow.

Thanks everyone. I had already cleaned the throttle body it was pretty dirty but didn't make a real difference. This morning I unhooked the battery terminals and hook them together for 10-15 minutes and then hooked them back up. (With the IAC plugged in). Started it up and it idled high for around 15 seconds and then came down to about 700 rpm's. Ran fine all day long. Hopefully it stays this way.
