Hey guys,

I have a bizzare problem, three times today my explorer died out of the blue. 2 of the 3 times I was on a slight incline. I had the A/C on all 3 times. It's like the ignition system just shuts down, no spuddering or anything, check gauges appears, and the oil pressure drops because the engines not running, the other gauges all look fine. I'm able to place it back in park and restart it... Would it have logged some kind of code about this I can have read?

Ideas as to what might be the issue?

I had that symptom with my Dodge Dakota, and it was the fuel pump failing. The fault codes were for bad fuel injectors, but fortunately the service shop didn't believe it. I had to turn the truck over to one of the mechanics for a few days to drive home and back (since it was intermittent) and he figured it out.

Not saying that's your problem, but you should consider it. How many miles do you have?

I have about 117k. I've noticed this mostly happens when coming to a complete stop. I've ran Sea foam through it as well has checked and cleaned the air filter.

It sounds like you have not noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light come. If that is the case I would assume there are no error codes logged by the computer. You can always go to AutoZone and have them read out any error codes, if any, for free.

SyberTiger,

The service engine soon light only comes on after it dies. Which would be normal for the circumstances.

I've tried AutoZone as well as several other repair shops and none of them are able to read any codes. I have yet to take it to Ford so they can hit me up with a $85 diagnostics fee.

I'm going to check the Mass Air Flow sensor and try a few things with that to see if that has any effect. I'll post some updates when I learn more.

Check your IAC valve, When you come to complete stop will it quit at 1Krpm or less? Try reving it a bit above 2K or so. If you dissconnect the wiring harness to IAC start the truck rev the engine see if you can keep it from stalling that way. If you can it could be the IAC. As always check, check, and check for vac leaks.
